I'm on a hunt for the cutest games I can get my hands on, /vr/. Let's have a thread!

Gimmick on NES. There's nothing to fucking talk about here, everyone knows about it already. Lovely game.

Kirby's Adventure on NES. Everyone also knows about this.

Kirby Superstar and Kirby's Dream Land 3 on SNES are also good!

Ufouria on NES. Same guys who made Gimmick, but to my knowledge it was not as popular.

Bubble Bobble on NES and arcade. Nothin' needs said here, either.

>> No.2672727 [DELETED]

Rainbow Islands on NES and arcade. Both versions have something to offer; The NES version has a very cute story with dialogue, but the arcade version has better graphics and effects, and there's a Street Fighter 1 reference in the ending!

Akumajo Special: Boku Dracula-kun on NES. Konami did some of the cutest super-deformed games, shame they didn't do more!

Wai Wai World 2: SOS!! Parsley Jo on NES, while we're on the topic of Konami and super-deformed characters! While the game itself wasn't great, the backgrounds and cute sprites in general were all very well done.

Yume Penguin Monogatari and Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa on NES were also very, very good!

Do you need to get your eyes checked?
Or maybe you've suffered a brain injury.
It was probably a brain injury.
Please tell your parents I'm sorry they have a retard child.
Because that isn't fucking retro. Not at all. You stupid fuck.

Umihara Kawase is pretty cute. It's just a little girl with a fishpole. Much like Gimmick!, it's another platformer with unconventional platforming mechanics (gimmicks), cutesy non-threatening aesthetics that contrast pretty heavily with how hardcore and challenging the game actually is, and it's also mostly known because of GCCX.

There's an entire subcategory of shmups called "cute 'em ups", so you should probably look into that. This includes popular names like Parodius, Twinbee, Cotton, Fantasy Zone, Gunbird...

One of my favorite is Twinkle Star Spirites. It's an amazing versus shmup that was ripped off by ZUN later for his Touhou series. Probably my favorite shmup overall, it can be played in single-player or multiplayer.

Another one is Harmful Park for PS1.

>> No.2675128

You mean games that are part of the horror/survival horror genre, or games that have a "horror" setting?

If it's the latter, then you have games like that Splatterhouse or Dracula-kun Famicom game here >>2672752 >>2672736, Shadow Land, probably some of the Ghostbusters games.

If you mean actual horror games then the closest I can think of is Gregory Horror Show by Capcom and Luigi's Mansion but that's for PS2 and Gamecube, so not quite retro enough for /vr/, and it's stretching the meaning of "cute".

>> No.2675139

>>2675128
I was expecting the latter but was hoping for more survival horror. I think the best example is probably Gregory Horror Show like you mentioned, too bad it's not more retro, I lack a PS2 for it and it doesn't work on emulators, I've been eyeing it for a long time. The cute/survival horror genre combo seems to be hard to find, especially for older games.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong.

Isn't Kid Dracula a sequel, but also contains the previous NES game? Just trying to figure out whether buying the original is worth it or not, if the GB version already has the nes version.
