My local marketplace used to sell these in abundance, both the games and ripoff consoles.

Northern Ken, Super Mario vs. Jurassic Park, the Ikari Warriors ripoff starring Fidel Castro/Che Guevara etc.

Weirdest one I played is probably the Donald Duck one which is Super C with a bunch of Mexicans

Mario hacks are the tits.
The good thing about Mario hacks is that most of the times the original games are actually great. Back in the late 80s and early 90s it was a great way to discover rare japanese games. Although sometimes they were well known games, like Super Mario 6 (Tiny Toon Adventures) or Mario 5 (which was actually SMB2USA, no changes as far as I could tell)

Beyond Mario Hacks and silly multicarts, there are pirate originals.

Cony's Street Fighter II Pro, is actually an extremely faithful Street Fighter II. It's only shortcoming is the inputs aren't the same as in SF2.

Hummer's Mortal Kombat II Special might as well be Mortal Kombat 2 1:1. It's got all of MK2's charchters, and all of MK1/MK2's levels. All that's missing is fatalities.

Hummer's Super Mario World manages to serve as proof an 8-bit Yoshi is playable.

Hummer's Somari proved the Famicom could do Sonic gameplay.

Shenzen Nanjing does nearly perfect Final Fantasy and Zelda backports.

You and me both. You can swap the CPU and PPU with actual NES chips to make it NES-accurate, which is why I'm interested in it. I'm trying to think realistically about it tho, since I don't have a ton of room and I already own a front loader NES.
The chips are socketed tho which means you can easily swap them once you manage to desolder the NES stuff. I want it mainly because I have a board from a broken NES that I'd really like to use somehow, since it just takes up space otherwise but I'm really not sure if it's worth it.
