2667135 No.2667135 [Reply] [Original]

I'm working night shift and sometimes it can get real slow, and I remembered I loved my old GBA:SP that had the upgraded backlight. Problem is, the games are a little expensive and my old terrible flash cart has been lost to the ages.

Do they even make these any more? I know I could emu but I love the shape and durability of my gbasp, something I can fold up and shove in a pocket when I do whatever.

Any help would be awesome. Picture unrelated because on phone at night job.

EZ Flash iv's are no longer manufactured and are in pretty short supply. 3DS has Native support for GBA and you can install the roms onto the SD card so that's currently the best option for playing GBA games on the go.

They still make GBA flash carts and I regularly find them second hand for a few bucks. I always buy them because kids here always claim they're in short supply and better I have a spare when needed than some faggot. EZ Flash have some issues but nothing you can't work around. Probably the best option for the price.

Not retro.

>> No.2667521

EZ Flash IV is probably the only GBA Flash cart you can still buy. Incidentally, I think it also has the best compatibility.

I have one of the original white / frosted models that uses a miniSD cart. It looks like the new black model uses microSD.

Steer clear of the SuperCard, if you can even still purchase those anywhere. The compatibility is really low, and the card has so little on-board RAM that games have a ton of slowdown or produce numerous graphics glitches.

Not. Retro.

>> No.2667557

GBA not being considered retro has to be the most irrational rule here. Although being released after 1999 the GBA platform represents everything retro gaming stands for and totally belongs here in my opinion. Heck, the games are more retro than N64...

I'm all for subtle GBA discussion but it has to be just that, subtle.

I may sound a little grumpy, but /vr/ is not yet ready for such an influx of GBA threads, things are kinda comfy here. I would wait for the next generation.

/vr/ has been discussing GBA for weeks. The mods don't seem to care, so what's the use in whining about it? Besides, these current mods are 10x better than the ones we used to have. On-topic threads were being deleted left to right, posts were pruned from threads inexplicably, and Dreamcast threads were being deleted long after the sticky had established them as retro.

The GBA and DS were such outdated pieces of shit that they should have counted as retro when they were released. They have literally the exact same kind of games as SNES and N64 respectively, but with harsher limitations.

Are you really recommending that massive pain that is installing 3DS softmods as the best alternative to play GBA games on the go?

I'm not dissing 3DS softmods, but it's a bit involved and you need old exploitable firmwares and shit. I bet the PSP suggestions are more realistic...

I don't think the M3 Micro was ever produced with a GBA shell. I believe there was a limited quantity of the shells produced sometime later, and you had to swap your existing M3 card into it manually. Good luck tracking one of those shells down now. Your best bet is probably to invest in an EZF4.
