any good dungeon crawlers for gb/gba/nes/snes? the only one i remeber was eye of the beholder and wizardry

>> No.2649889

>>2647630
Those systems had nearly squat in terms of original dungeon crawlers and the number of actually solid ones is even slimmer. SMT games are the general go-tos, but outside of those there's Arcana which is okayish, Mazes of Fate which is, well... it exists, and that's mostly it.

There's Bard's Tale, but it's not great. The best dungeon crawlers are PC or modern.

>> No.2653324

For NES, I thought Dungeon Magic, Pool of Radiance and Bard's Tale were all great games.

Are those the consoles you own or are you emulating? Cause Sega-wise there's Shining in the Darkness for Genesis and a translation of Madou Monogatari for Game Gear

He said gb/gba/nes/snes you genetard

No one willingly wants to play on those garbage ass consoles gtfo here with your 50 batteries to go with your game gear so you can play it for 2 minutes

That's why he asked about emulating, and then suggested some actual decent console dungeon crawlers. But hey, thanks for freaking out like a kid with down's syndrome over it.

Whenever someone says to me they liked a game, and they didn't use the original cartridge and console, do you know what I say to them?

I say "how do you know you like it? You haven't played it."

And they haven't. They've played a piece of programming attempting to replicate what the game is.

lol okay you're one of those. Well as an old fart with a closet full of carts and systems I now don't bother to hook up anymore because emulation covers it all perfectly and more conveniently for me, I find your attitude ridiculous.

If that's how you want to live your life then be my guest, but I'm not going to go into every conversation assuming that the other person is going to be that level of crazy.

Perfectly well enough for me. But then you're probably a CRT enthusiast as well.

Again, you can play your games however you want but the "you didn't really play it" line is laughable. And that's from someone with a fuckload of experience with both. :)

I only mentioned my age as an indicator that I have played plenty and plenty of games on original hardware in my day. I find the quality of emulators perfectly acceptable these days and that's my preferred way of playing.

On Topic: There's a handful of the Wizardy's available for the SNES too, may be more comfy than playing them on GB.

This post is probably getting deleted soon, but whatever.
The GBC has Towers: Lord Baniff's Deceit, a Atari ST port and Dream Maze on the SNES is really good.

If you don't mind dealing with fan translations, Megami Tensi and SMT are some pretty great dungeon crawlers.

The Shining games are always very straightforward and simple, and Shining in the Darkness is no exception. If you want something straightforward and simple, yes, it's a decent game, but seeking something with depth and complexity will leave you empty-handed.

It's only "decent" at best, however. Even as an entry-level dungeon crawler.

People
I bought Etryan Oddeysey IV, my first dungeon crawler, liked it a lot, but actually would prefer to play a western looking game with elves and magicians and knights than one with anime girls.

What are the best, most classic and acclaimed dungeon crawlers?

>> No.2656458

Wizardry, Might&Magic and Dungeon Master series are the main codifiers and what the gameplay systems of all others were derived from. Going a bit deeper, there's Eye of the Beholder, Lands of Lore, Betrayal at Krondor, Realms of Arkania, Pool of Radiance (and other Goldboxes), Dark Heart of Uukrul, Mordor, Bard's Tale, Ishar...
