I'm sort of planning to fill the square up, so the goal is to have something there and then build more scenery instead of having scenery in the way of whatever's gonna be there.

The miniature train is based on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway's "Northern Rock", shown in pic related.

The vertical coaster is obviously based on Alton Towers' "Oblivion", built by Bolliger & Mabillard, as it was the only coaster of that type to exist when RCT1 was released.

The steel/looping coaster is based on Anton Schwarzkopf's steel coasters.

most woodies weren't built by PTC, but for a while almost all of them were running PTC trains. They were the absolute gold standard in woodie trains for a very long time.

Some more info about the real-life basis of the rides.

The Junior Coaster is not Zamperla, as >>2641818 suggests, but Zierer instead. The log trains are based on the ones at Oakwood Theme Park's Treetops Coaster, and the ladybird trains on Lightwater Valley's Ladybird, formerly of Dreamland.

The Bobsled Coaster is from Mack Rides.

The American Style Steam Train is based on Lightwater Valley's Rio Grande, built by Severn-Lamb. In real life it is a diesel, but it's steam in RCT.

I'd try naming them something more car themed, if that's the main theme of your square
Turbocharger and Supercharger could work.

Or you could go all out neckbeard and name them AE86 and FD3S and give them a white and black train, and yellow train, respectively.

Also, if there was anyway you could add the effect of rumble strips to your track edges, that'd be cool. Maybe just painting each piece of track red or white alternating would work.

if you press on the cogwheel tab in your rollercoaster window, you can adjust the launch speed so might give removing all the straight parts and a higher launch speed a try if you want to go for a more realistic look and more compact build.

but if you like the rollercoaster the way it is, then just roll with it, because the stats could be better, but they ain't bad either.

>> No.2651104

If they just do manufacturer type tracks and let you choose the trains types to put on them, 10 would be ok. Say, B&M (wing, twister, standup, floorless, and dive), Arrow/Vekoma (lay-down and corkscrew), Intamin (Oh so many), Wooden (Main thing is the trains), B&M Inverted (inverted and flying), Swinging, Premier, Vekoma Invert, Wild Mouse, Schwarzkopf. Not ideal, but not as bad as "10 coasters" sounds.

As far as flat rides, 15 gentle and 15 thrill is generally more that people use anyway, and gives plenty of room for variety.

I still think it's small, but not as bad as it seems at first.

15 of each, no matter if "people don't use that many", is still a low amount. RCT3 had so many that I could always put a unique ride in my parks. I know RCT only uses integer math by observing the game and noticing a complete lack of floating point numbers.

I then ask myself "What could cause differences in mirrored coasters, given that we're working with integer math?", and "What's the simple way to track lateral G's with as few variables as posssible?", and find something that answers both: Using a positive number to express one direction and negative for the other, and just expressing it as a positive number always.

It's guesswork, but I'm very confident in it.

That's a very old trick, actually even older than the floating point numbers. It's called fixed point numbers.

If you are interested, read on:

The difference between the two is that the fixed point numbers have fixed precision, whereas floating point numbers can "adjust" their precision depending on how small the number is. On the other hand, fixed point numbers are much faster to compute. As fast as integers, which they basically are.
Recently, they are living their second youth, because they are widely used in embedded systems, which tend to be as minimalist as possible (so you don't usually waste hardware or software resources on handling floats).

Fixed point numbers consist of 2 integers, one for the whole part of the number, other for the fraction. Generally, their length may differ, ex. 8 bit and 32 bit if you work with relatively small numbers and care for precision. If you know you will be working only with fractions lesser than 1, you can skip the first number and use only the second.
In real life, you often use 1 merged and "shifted" number instead of 2, e.g. instead of two 8 bit integer numbers, you use one 16 bit integer number. The value "1" of the merged 16 bit integer represents a fraction of "1/2^8". So a number 6.052 would have a value of 1549, because 1549 * 1/2^8 == 6.05078125 (here you can see how 6.052 and 6.05078125 are not even, because of the precision).

I'll start by admitting that I have not been following the Parkitect development so I don't really know where they're at right now. I'm not a fan of how it looked last time I saw it, it looked like a game for tablets or smartphones, way to minimalist compared to RCT2s quite busy pixelartlike look. It's just not for me.

We can look at the excitement underflow bug and see the behavior expected of a integer that has a decimal point added in output, though, instead of the behavior of a fixed point number. For that reason, I'm personally betting Chris used ints everywhere.

I'll freely admit I haven't looked at the assembly though, so I could easily be horribly wrong.

Super-exciting heartline twisters that have excitement ratings of around 650.00

It is believed that each of the stats use an unsigned 16-bit integer (an integer with a range of 0 to 65535, no negatives) which is represented in the game as a fixed point number. Since it's unsigned, if something is so boring that prompts it to go negative, the variable will undergo an underflow and will come out at the upper end of its range.

65535 / 100 = 655.35

Essentially, a ride can be so boring its fun.

>transport rides in
>no underground on release, it's "a technical problem that is really difficult to solve for simulation games",
but they said they want to release core features like that for free, hinting
at how how tunnels came out after release for free in Cities Skylines and they're gonna continue free support after release
>they added a safety rating in addition to the classic excitement/intensity/nausea, this is affected by maintenance by mechanics so really it's just renamed reliability from the old games, there will be a higher chance of the cars flying off the track if you don't maintain your ride
>"mechanic stations" as they want you to focus more on the macro
>first aid station replaced by medical staff that walk around and help peeps
>steam workshop mods are built into the UI so you don't have to exit the game to get mods
>custom scenery can follow the game's rulesets so they can be flagged as a specific theme like Western and work with the peep preferences
