I know it's objectively the worst version, but I can't help but love it.

> Stiff movement
> Enemies always face you
> Same strategy for 99% of the enemies
> Walls don't render as true 3D objects

But despite all that, I love this game. Who else loves bad SNES first person shooters?

Not retro, but I have the feeling you would like the GBA shooters. Some of them are actually good.

Yes, the Genesis hardware is much better at brte force calculations like what wolfenstein uses. The SNES relied on specialized hardware to do tile and sprite manipulation, whereas the genesis has enough power to actually do the math to manipulate objects. Wolfenstein 3d doesn't utilize any specialized hardware, it's simple raycasting (basic trig) to render everything.

I had a 386, so I played the shit out of wolf3d. Never bothered with the SNES, I didn't know it was that bad. Pretty rough, especially with censorship. Still I'd rather play that instead of Taz Mania or Madden '94.

How about bad FPS games in general?

I love this game, you're a fat nigger with malaria in the middle of the congo jungle and you must make your way through a maze of picelated green and brown pixelated poilygons while dozens of prerendered 2D sprites of gigantic insects and wild jungle animals jump at you.
Every now and then you'll get the fever and your vision as well as your controlls get fucked up for a while, just endure it.

It's such a frustrating and shitty game, but it's good if you want to torture yourself with an agoraphobic Doom clone set in the middle of the jungle hell.

I also love how the title is basically game: the movie: the game

SNES version had more weapons.

Playing through Doom 2 GBA as we speak.

Definitely a good call.

It has an automap too, as I recall, which is really helpful. I sometimes play Wolf for nostalgic reasons, and I expect it to be much simpler of course, but that's something I really miss from Doom especially in the truly maze-like later levels.

Better than it had any right to be. I played PC Wolf3D/Doom because I enjoyed SNES Wolf3D.
Same way I got to "real" Dune2K/C&C/RA through the PS1 ports.

It works on real Genesis hardware so yeah they could if they wanted.

Carmack is a progidy, of course they could.

One of the best running and nost faithful ports in the 90s was on the Jaguar, and I'm certain that had to do with Carmack being one of the few people smart enough and interested enough in figuring out how the hell that box of fuck worked and how to get the best performance out of it.
Ok so it lacked the music, but besides that it was top notch.

Fun and good, but honestly there seems little point nowadays, other than the novelty of playing an fps on the SNES. There are so many good fps out there that allow so much more. Sort of like being short-sighted and going out without glasses/contacts.

I heard good things about the 3DO port as well.

Wolf 3D on the Jag still had the music. You're thinking of Doom.

>You play as a fat nigger with malaria in a jungle.

This sounds like something /v/ would make.

I love it. The premise alone sounds like gold.

Please don't tell me the health powerups are fried chicken and watermelon or something.
