Does anyone else enjoy this game as much as I do? It's like a spaghetti western and dragon quest had a child. I prefer the remake but that isn't retro.

I enjoyed it but honestly I feel they could have done much, much more with the western inspiration. It felt too much like a recolored heroic fantasy.
Also, I haven't actually finished it yet. The grinding gets a little tiresome too, I got after what I consider to be the second "fake ending" (the photosphere dungeon). But a game with a music this beautiful should be played by everyone.

Wild Arms 3 is the best title for a western setting. The ENTIRE planet is a desert and everyone in the party uses a gun. I love it.

I personally preferred 2 more, but 1 was just as good IMO.

I loved all the side content in WA. Optional bosses for days, secret runes, bonus dungeons, all that good shit.

I only played WA2 but wasn't very impressed. I thought it was going to be Red Dead but as an RPG. Instead it was a bunch of dumb and overused anime cliches and the west setting was barely there. The part I remember most was the areas that had big computers everywhere and electronics.

I actually think I have 1 on PSN but never played it because my PS3 died.

The second one is the furthest removed from the western setting.

>> No.2633527

I liked the first one especially because the ARMS and western stuff was pretty light. It loses its effect when it's full-blown.

The in-battle sprites are really bad, but it didn't bother me TOO much. What did was that stupid angry cat sound that every enemy in the game makes. Would have been amazing had they kept the battle system 2D, but I understand completely why it is how it is.

Alter Code F is fun.

4 is even less western

it's like WA2 though in that it takes place immediately after a world war and is primarily concerned with the consequences of the remnants of that war

well WA2 has a bunch of spoopy shit and space stuff

a lot of the games get really out of control with their influences and mashing together of aesthetics, but WA2 is the worst for that

fun game tho

Only good thing about it is the intro song.

I agree.
I do love the first one because of that, the western stuff serves the game but the games is not that much designed around that exclusively. What make sit so good is the sounddtrack. The intro music was great but overall, the music is very good in this game and gives a special feeling when playing it, some kind of nostalgic feelings for ancient civilizations. The idea with the 3 parallel stories at the beginning was brilliant also. Only the 3D fights have not aged very well.

It was the 2nd RPG I played on my Ps1 (after Suikoden and before FF7) and I still have very found memories of it.

I think the western part of the setting needed that little extra bit of fleshing out. It felt too much like your standard heroic fantasy (as pointed out before).

The three parallel stories at the start blew my mind when I was a kid. It was really something fresh.

I'm really conflicted about the game. I enjoyed it, but the setting turned out not quite unique enough, the grind was a bit too much at times and the dungeons started feeling very samey and boring after a while. It's true that the music was phenomenal though.

That being said, I think my favourite moment in the game must've been when Mother assimilated Zeikfried. Shit was creepy and awesome. And that sound effect too.

That game sucks. It has some good voice acting, if you like english dubs. There's no reason to play it other than muh animes; the one on one battles get old quick and the dating aspect is barely there.

Loved the fuck out this series. Perfect blend of Phantasy Star IV, Lufia II and 16 bit era Final Fantasy.
