2624418 No.2624418 [Reply] [Original]

Hi /vr/, I need your help. I bought 2 SNES, 1 PAL version and another US version, pic related, and some games. All this for 100€. The owner told me I needed to clean the cartridge reader. I tried plugging in the US version (the games are all
US), but nothing happens. I have 0 experience with old consoles, I need your help, please
Thanks

>> No.2624425

Also, the US SNES cable fits perfectly in EU sockets

I think you will need a 110v stepdown convertor or a compatible 240v one NOT your euro one. Plugging it in otherwise could kill your SNES. You may have already blown the fuse doing this

Jesus, Man you must have really wanted a SNES. Let's hope we can get them working. Take a q-tip and 90% isopropyl alcohol and clean the cartridge contacts. To clean the cartridge connector, plug the carts in while they still have the alcohol on them then unplug them. Repeat until the console shows some sign of life.

At least you got some composite cables.

Jeez that sucks. OP there should be a red LED that lights up on the front of the SNES when it's on.

it has a red light

the AC adapter says:
Netz: 230V ~ 50Hz
Ausg: 9V 500mA 4.5VA

Best thing to do is look for a cheap centre neg 9v adapter on eBay. You shouldn't pay more than idk 5 pounds in your money (aus here, same volts and)

The PAL system is official
If I tried to buy this anywhere else it would have been ~200 eurobux, with 1 or 2 games

I think the problem is related to this, he told me that maybe I would need to open the SNES to fix that

If the red light is on you haven't blown it. Just get a 9v centre negative adapter. A pal megadrive adapter will actually work as well if you have one

See the + and - at the bottom and how the positive is wrapping around the middle? This is centre positive you need the opposite of that for the us snes. The first one first one you posted might work if you can set it to 9v and centre negative

OR I could just buy PAL games and sell all the USA stuff... Is it worth it?

>> No.2624745

>>2624692
You probably won't get an unbiased opinion here when asking about PAL stuff. It boils down to some games having improper conversions and running slower than the NTSC equivalent as a result. Some people who don't know any better will tell you this applies to all PAL games, but it usually depends on how the game was developed. The SNES actually has a good ratio of decent PAL conversions compared to some other consoles. Regardless of that stuff, SNES games of any region are too expensive to buy en masse for most people.

You can make almost any SNES universally region free with the superCIC mod, but it's fairly tricky to do. There are shittier mods that don't take the different master clock speeds into consideration, but that's a substandard solution.

A flash cart is another viable option, since you can play about 98% of games without having to buy them all. There are a few problem games that don't work on any flash cart. You wouldn't be able to play NTSC games on a PAL console and vise versa without a mod though.

You sound like you're just out for an easy solution to play SNES games, so you could save yourself a lot of hassle by using emulators.

You should buy for your region.

PAL shit is completely different then NTSC-UC or NTSC-J.

As a PALfag who gets pissed off by all the PAL ignorance around here I'd still recommend OP focus on getting the NTSC one going. Even if that's the ugly one. Not worrying about region protection (some Jap games don't work on PAL) and never having to even worry about if a game has the speedfix would be worth the price of a step-down convertor.

That said, can you not just slot the USA carts into the PAL machine? Even if they don't physically fit the roms are compatible. Nothing a little multilation won't fix.

I've tried that and it didn't work for me, I cracked open some baseball cart and placed the bare bones cartridge into the slot and got nada

The CIC lockout chip prevents PAL games from working on an NTSC console and the other way around. It's possible to bypass the chip by various means (converters, simple mods, etc), but that can prevent some games from working.

What this guy >>2624745 says about the master clocks being different is a big problem here, since it will cause some games to fuck up. superCIC mod is the god-tier solution for any region SNES.

There's a guy called Drakon who's really good with that stuff. He charges about 6-8x what other people do, but only because hot glue is so expensive these days.

Ausfag (PAL) here. If i were you i'd sell the pal snes and use the money to get a super everdrive so you don't have to worry about importing games. If you really don't like the look of the US snes just take them both apart and swap the shells. There is definitely benefits to sticking to NTSC with SNES due to the relative difficulty of modding them (a MD is an easy region mod). Just make sure your TV (whatever you are using) will support NTSC. If you're going to use RGB you don't have to worry.

>> No.2625832

yeah PAL doesn't work on NTSC

The transformator in the US adfapter is made for 110V, to make it 9V, since your Socket gives a lot more voltage it will transfor it accordingly into ~20V. Luckily beacuse the voltages in themselves are so relatively low even this relatively high amount shouldn't damage the system for a short period of time.
SO it should be alright, the LED still going indicates this.

>Just make sure your TV (whatever you are using) will support NTSC.
You'd be hard pressed to find one that doesn't, really. Unless your TV has a wood finish you can pretty much assume it does NTSC.

dont trust these selectable voltage things for electronics

in general, if its too light, its fake
i bet >>2624475 is much lighter than >>2624480

also, the multivolt one says maximum of 1000 mili Amper

so its probably 1000mA at 3volts

which means +-350 mA at 9V that the snes needs
