Just as dumb as calling the Neo Geo 24-bit. The PCE might have an 8-bit CPU but it has a 16-bit GPU, and it's sound capabilities aren't much worse than the Genesis.

However, music is generated through the HuC6280, which is 8-bit. On the other hand, the SNES's SPC700 is 8-bit too so that really doesn't say much.

If we're going by address bus the PCE's 65C02 has a 16 bit one.

The catagorization of video game systems by bits is flawed anyway. There is a reason we stopped doing that after the fifth generation.

What definines a system being 16-bit? If you go by CPU only, that means you leave out the PC Engine and include the Intellivision.

64-bit data bus =/= the ability to run 64-bit binaries.

Even though the 68000 had a 16bit ALU, addresses were always manipulated by 32bit instructions. i.e. not only was the address space 32bit, but flat addressing was used.

Contrast this to the original 8086, which had 20bit address space, it could only access 16bit (64 kilobyte) chunks without resorting to slow extra instructions.

With the 68000 in spite of databus and ALU width being 16bit, address arithmetic always is 32bit. Furthermore for all dataregister ops there is a 32bit version of the instruction, it could run 32-bit binaries.

If it has a 32-bit instruction set, it can run 32-bit binaries that would indicate it was indeed 32-bit.
