I've just played through Final Fantasy Adventure (weakest entry in the Mana series, but I appreciate it for what followed), Secret of Mana, Secret of Mana 2/Seiken Densetsu 3 (English translation patch), and Secret of Evermore (not a Mana game but based on the gameplay of them, and honestly my favorite game listed here).

I know there are no other games out there like Evermore, but are ANY of the other Mana games good? If not, are there any other ARPGs with a fun cast of characters, some of whom accompany you, that can give me a SoM or SoM2-ish vibe?

I want to make new friends and beat up colorful monsters.

Legend of Mana. Some don't like it for various reasons, some love it.

LoM was the last of the good ones. Adventure got a remake but it's almost a completely different game.

You will probably like Legend of Mana. The combat kind of sucks and it's super easy (bosses don't scale, even in nightmare mode so most, even the end boss dies in just a couple of hits) but the stories and characters are all quite cool and it's a fun ride while you're going.

I recommend going in blind the first time and just discovering it as you go. Then on a replay in one of the other modes look up where to place various land bits you get.

The GBA remake of FFA kind of sucks, I wouldn't bother with it unless you're itching for another.

Children of Mana on DS is freakishly horrible. I wouldn't recommend touching it with a 10 foot pole.

Also, you don't have multiple characters, but I think Beyond and Legend of Oasis both beat all the Manas at their own game.

If you use PSN, Legend of Mana is on sale for $3.

I had more fun playing that than SD3. Bullshit-free combat, awesome music and you get to ride a chocobo.

Yeah, I didn't agree with that part either but whatever. We all got opinions.

I don't, but three bucks is a great price for that game.

The most bullshit that FFA ever gets is "Palm trees and 8"

Decided to look up Legend of Mana on Youtube to see if it was up my alley; found cringe.

i think FFA get's way underrated most of the time, especially if you consider it's platform. It's by far one of the top gameboy games and i loved it so much back then.. lovely game.

I found it way, way harder than any of the others and got fed up with it.

Fuck making me wanna play legend of mana again. Fuck that's my favorite game of all time. Probably logged no word of a lie a years worth of hours over the span of my life in that game.

Too bad my ps1 and game are on the other side of the continent. That and I'm pretty sure wear and tear is getting to the game. There was a part where it kept freezing and I had to do a bunch of shit to get it to stop. Soon I won't be able to play her anymore :(

It definitely outclasses the GB SaGa games, that's for sure.

All of the first four Mana games are pretty damn different and they're all really good games for different reasons. SoM and LoM practically embody entirely different perspectives on game design.

I don't even consider it a series since none of the games are really related outside of a handful of common themes (Mana, Mana Holyland, Mana sword, etc).

But nothing after Legend of mana is worth looking at. I have Dawn of Mana on PS2 and its a fucking mess. I like a lot of the stuff it does, its just Square got so far up its own Japanese ass during the PS2 era that things went insane.

I'm honestly surprised they're still so popular, but a lot of the PS2 games are cringe-inducing levels of weebyness.

Being weebshit was the least of Dawn of Mana, The Bouncer, Front Mission 4, Final Fantasy X, etc's problems. They really started plummeting downhill after the PlayStation1.
