Name one game better than CVIII on NES.
I hope you can because I'm trying to find great games on this system.

The Japanese version of Castlevania 3 for that sweet, sweet VRC6 chip.

You could also possibly add these:

Bomberman II
Excitebike
Gradius
Gradius II
Hogan's Alley (requires a light gun though, so probably not worth your time on an emulator)
Ike Ike! Nekketsu Hockey Bu - Subette Koronde Dai Rantou
Joy Mech Fight
Kirby's Adventure
The Legend of Zelda
Zelda II - The Adventure of Link (depending on who you ask, this game is EXTREMELY polarizing)
Little Nemo - The Dream Master
Lifeforce
Mini Putt
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!
Nintendo World Cup
Metroid
Ninja Gaiden
Ninja Gaiden II
Ninja Gaiden III (probably an unpopular opinion, but still a solid game worth playing)
Shadow of the Ninja
Shatterhand
Splatter House - Wanpaku Graffiti
Super Mario Bros. 2
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II - The Arcade Game
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III - The Manhattan Project
Metroid
Duck Tales
Duck Tales 2
Nekketsu! Street Basket - Ganbare Dunk Heroes

Solar Jetman.

I hesitate to claim that a game in an entirely different genre is simply "better" than CV3; but if for some reason I had to pick out what I thought was the best NES game overall I would go with Solar Jetman. It's a really damn good game and I haven't encountered anything else quite like it.

I love it, but probably more for the aesthetic than actual gameplay. I feel the same was with Monster Party. I played both of them a bunch as a kid but never even made it that far in either game, but when you do it feels like a massive accomplishment.

Anyway, if I were to name any games off the top of my head for OP I would say Little Sampson or Shatterhand.

Kabuki - Quantum Fighter

Snow Bros.

That's really funny that you say that because those were my two favorite nes games growing up. You're right, the aesthetics are great.

The isometric levels take some getting used to at first, but it's a great game. I don't see it mentioned a lot, I guess because it was an obscure license or maybe because it came late in the NES lifespan. Typically good Konami/Ultra title, developed by the Bayou Billy guys; I wonder if it was released in Japan?

Yes this is a good game, it's kinda like Street Fighter 2010 in a way. I'm not found of the isometric stages though.

>>2614538
I'd always let this music loop at least twice before starting a stage.

Have you guys played the JP version? It's not as good, mostly due to the easier difficulty, but it's worth playing for the different moves and the exclusive content alone.

Also have you played Choujin Sentai Jetman ? It's made by the same devs and I could swear it shares the same engine as Shatterhand, although I can't prove it.

A lot of them actually. The best games of the 16-bit gen were mostly fighters, beat 'em ups, and RPGs, none of which were really a big thing (save for JRPGs in Japan) during the 8-bit gen. And 2D games have largely been neglected altogether on consoles since then, so there's not really anything to "obsolete" them.
