2602705 No.2602705 [Reply] [Original]

I loved the first game, but this one is just a mess. Missing all of the charm of the first game, level design is repetitive and boring, boss fights are slow and take way too long, and generally the levels are based more on "tricks" than actual clever design. Why did so much go wrong so fast?

>> No.2602835

2 has the best controls and pacing between levels. Sorry if you don't "get" it. Call me back when you 100% it for the first time though, I'm sure your opinions will have changed by then.

>> No.2602867

The first game had way more repetitive and boring level design.

>> No.2602936

2 was pretty good though, save for the jetpack stages. Those control like ass.
If you have this opinion about 2, I wonder what you'll think of 3. That one has quite a few gimmicky stages, and I'd understand you if it was that one you were complaining about.

>> No.2603361

Crash 2 is essentially about domestic abuse

>> No.2603368

Actually, OP, 2 is the best one.

>> No.2603369

First game is a mess of poorly thought out game mechanics.

Second and third games are beset with terrible gimmick stages.

All of the games have an unresolved major problem with depth perception.

But what matters most of all is that despite the above, they are all fun

I feel like 2 has an issue with having almost the *exact* stages just with different box placement. These sewers stages in particular are really starting to drag, a friend of mine who was watching me play on and off thought I was still on the same level they look so similar.

1 certainly wasn't perfect, but I never felt like it was a slog either. Even the rather difficult last few levels felt varied and interesting to me, what with the side scrolling one in the rain, the pitch black one where the masks are lights, etc

>> No.2603445

Crash 3 was much better than the first two. A lot more interesting locations and it didn't have the same levels every time. It was nice to switch it up from time to time (even though admittedly the flying levels were awful).

1&2 are pretty great. 3 kinda sucks.

>> No.2603878

The 2nd one is my favourite by far, really comes into effect after playing through the first one.
>>2603445
I thought 3 would have been perfect if they didn't have all the, for lack of better words, special levels. Talking swimming, racing, flying and especially that jet ski business.

I think Crash Bandicoot 2 is the best in the series, all things considered.

Best gameplay and controls, best graphics, level design almost on par with Crash 1, but lacking a little in the color palette sometimes, best music, even got the best story.

The only criticism I've got for it is that it's too easy. They all are, platforming-wise. I seriously wish somebody could bring Crash Bandicoot's well paced and compact 3D platforming to its full potential.

It's best you don't, it's a reference to a recent SGDQ speedrun of Crash. Runner was extremely socially award and made some bad jokes that people got assblasted over.

More interesting locations? I thought at that point they were just throwing in the most generic locations from the real world into Crash's world.

You're never actually at the archipelago south-east of Australia, you're fucking around everywhere else. It's terribly inconsistent compared to Crash 1 and even Crash 2 and unoriginal.

Now, I admit they should have made more of an effort to give name and much more individuality to the places you go to in the first two games, because if there's one video game world that I would give anything to explore further, apart from Silent Hill - and maybe that utopian Rayman 1 world - it's the archipelago from the first two games.

And no, fuck Crash Twinsanity. Not only are the islands WAY too small, but they are also plagued with that try-hard Nickelodeon feel.

Check out Crash Bandicoot: The Untold Story on Facebook (4chan is gay as shit, so I can't put up a link)

This will be an interesting read in the near future.

There is some drama about NaughtyDog and Universal surfacing at the moment.

Someone put up a scrapped animated intro for the original game as well.

>> No.2607370

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some reused content in Crash 2 and 3. They had less than a year to make each game.

We have heard NaughtyDog's side of the story, about Universal being huge tyrants that tried to break them apart. I wonder what Universal's side of the story is.

Regardless, I will be biased against Universal, for fucking up my nearest and dearest piece of entertainment.

I don't know what to think about all that. On one hand I like all the info, but he often comes off as a child when he rants about betrayal and all that. I dislike that he keeps advertising his game ideas, but I think that's just the "everyone's a shill" mentality I've developed.

It also makes replaying levels a shitload easier since they got rid of the stupid Mario-style overworld.

Am I in bizarro /vr/ or some shit? Crash 2 is an improvment over the first game in every way. It's not like Spyro 2 which got too dumbed down with annoying side characters and goofy enemy designs etc. Crash 2 retains everything good about the first game and improves on it.

Unlike Crash 3, which reduced "air acceleration" (slower to change direction in mid-air), threw out all that reminded of Crash Bandicoot's environment, put in a bunch of annoying vehicle levels and all the music from the bonus rounds and death routes are exactly the same now with instruments.

Crash 1 is great, but is very simple. It's no better than a typical NES platformer.

Crash 2 is excellent, best level design and abilities

Crash 3 was my favourite as a kid, but looking back it's plagued by shitty minigame levels. It's why I can't enjoy the otherwise great GBA games.

The color orange doesn't automatically put Crash in that category. The Simpsons already made a parody of Crash Bandicoot as well. If you knew either, you would realize how retarded this comparison is, unless you draw a conclusion from the advertisements only, which was just the 90's being the 90's, like with every other game.
