Probably not like pic related, but there are some arcade ports that do kick ass. Opinion on ports? The best part about ports is that they filter out quarter feeding.

Aside from arcade perfect ports, there's stuff like the NES releases of Jackal, Contra, or Super C where the port was better than the arcade version.

The NES version of Millipede is my favorite home console port, aside from Millipede in emulated collections.

It's just too bad there wasn't a battery back-up for high scores.

There's also an NES port of Dig Dug II, which is nice because I don't think any other home ports are available.

Salamander on PC Engine was incredible.

Gradius was just as good, and got an extra level.

What is the purpose of discussing Arcade ports, when you can play any Arcade game ever made through Mame?

It has some flaws, but it's still the closest thing to the arcade the west got.

Dempa's ports to the X68k are worth playing just for the omake/special modes programmers sneaked in, especially for games like Space Harrier.

NES arcade ports like Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and Galaxian are awesome in my opinion. Golden Axe and Bonanza Bros for Genesis are really neat if you ask me, the former being more impressive for being released really early in Genesis lifespan

That port actually makes me angry, the NES could've have handled that game much better than that

Genesis port of Ghouls n Ghosts is great, though

I'm pretty sure nobody expects an arcade perfect game in a console like NES, SNES or Genesis, we're talking about good ports, probably in contrast with horrible ports like SF2 and Final Fight for Amiga or WWF Wrestlemania Arcade for SNES

Fuck NoA for censoring an otherwise fine port.

>> No.2601656

>>2599569
I really hate people with this mindset, why should censorship hinder your enjoyment of a game if it's still enjoyable. If you were playing it during the time the game was released you wouldn't even know.

>> No.2601658

The autistic backlash to Bravely Default changing a bikini to hotpants is kind of bizarre. That's exactly the same level of censorship FF3-US had.

>> No.2601659

Holy crap almost 30 posts and no one's mentioned Turtles IV? I think not only is this an example of a port that's done extremely well, but one that's in fact BETTER than the original because of the added levels. later on played the original arcade TMNT 4 on mame and it just wasn't the same without the Technodrome level.

>> No.2601665

>>2599569
The American releases of Contra and Super C were the same shit in any way that actually mattered, and Jackal was BETTER in the American version in comparison to the Japanese version.

>> No.2601685

It's not just censorship. NoA didn't allow Konami to produce their own PCB so the games had to be cut down in size.

Beat em ups for me are mediocre arcade games too anon. I mean, they're good, but a lot of them are the same, and it boils down to if you like the franchise. Like TMNT. The only beat em up I honestly loved is Battletoads Arcade. But then again, having a bro watching your back while playing beat em ups are kick ass fun.

I like beat 'em ups, TMNT4 arcade is just a shitty game for the genre. SNES improved it in some ways, but also worsened in other ways.

Even though we on /vr/ must pretend 6th gen doesn't exist, the Sega Ages 2500 version with Dynamite Deka is a pretty well done port. Yes, there's a option in the main menu to choose the original graphics, in this video we can see the gameplay is unchanged. Also, there's a VF2 arcade port too in this series

yeah I hear good things about the PS2 verison of Die Hard Arcade I hear theres a mode where you can have Golden Axe costumes. Tho VF2 on PS2 was surpassed by the HD port ?? Never played that version tho so idk. but I hear all the Sega Ages 2500 games that were done by M2 were amazing especially the Galaxy Force 2 and Treasure Box.

>> No.2602491

>>2602480

Some of the games have shitty visuals like Golden Axe and Outrun (sad but true), I have no fucking idea why they used bad 3D graphics instead porting the arcade titles, or at least have an option to play the original game. I'm curious to try Virtua Racing on it, it's actually beautiful but I can't say if it plays so good as arcade version. Not sure about VF2, never played the HD port

>> No.2602494

>>2602491
I hear Virtua Racing is one of the better earlier titles and probably the best version of the game. Yeah alot of the earlier Sega 3D ages games weren't very good till maybe midway through.
