Nah. The mini-games are few and scattered, and are intergrated within the zones to be more of a gimmick to get a specific puzzle piece/jinjo/etc.

Play Donkey Kong 64 if you want another Rare title that is overdependent on minigames.

Playing through it singleplayer for the first time (only my friends had 64s so I'd only played multiplayer, which I didn't like that much) it strikes me that like all 64 games most of the difficulty is from the godawful analogue stick. It is still noticeably harder than the "classic" platformers of that era though: Mario 64, Spyro etc.

My first game ever was Fantasia on the Megadrive, as a kid. Had a lot of fun playing it - never beat it, but got quite far. I had no other games to compare that title with and thought that the gameplay was pretty much the industry's standard.
Everything now seems so fucking easy to play.

It's a good game and all, but the dungeons are really drawn out and the combat is really lackluster.

I'd say it should have been more like WBiMW, but that game is sort of overrated as well. Hidden doors that are almost impossible to find, magic spells that have no guarantee of doing anything, and knockback mechanics from hell.

Neither game is bad, they're just not the masterpieces they're held up to be.

Nah, in my opinion I thought it was very underwhelming in most aspects, from a most of the level design to even the way Mario controls, which is in many ways a step down from 64 (Not saying the controls in that were perfect either, but they were still more dynamic in comparison). The graphics were very nice though; one of the best demonstrations of the GC's powress. Also the camera system is a great improvement over the one in 64.

I never played a Pokemon game because they weren't around in the NES and SNES years when I was growing up. Recently I tried playing one of the NDS games and was struck by how boring and simple it was. I think it's really one of those things you had to have enjoyed as a kid and have some nostalgia for. At least they've given him numerous new adventures that actually feel different, its easy to tell you're playing the original, 64, sunshine, galaxy, RPG, etc. Cuz they all play differently and try something new, but with Pokémon its literally the same exact shit rehashed every damn time minus adding in new Pokémon each installment, which doesn't really add anything to the game. The stories are never good or strong by any sense of the word, which is fine cuz a game can just excel in gameplay and be good, which Nintendo does a lot, but Pokémon doesn't even fucking do that, it's purely "nostalgia goggles" The Game.
