https://github.com/OpenRCT2/OpenRCT2/blob/develop/src/ride/ride_ratings.c#L2298
At the bottom, there's a call to sub_65E72D. This subroutine determines the amount of the ride that is "sheltered" (i.e. underground). For go-karts, if 6/8 or more of track is underground, the excitement is instantly halved.

On a side note, if the ride is in race mode and there are four or more karts, you get a bonus, along with a bonus of (number_of_laps-1)*30.

>> No.2599123

>>2599086
If you're that Anon that has gone before, then awesome! If not, still awesome, but let me make a few suggestions:

1) Don't bring food, get it in the park if you can. I mean, it's amusement park prices, but Knoebels wins awards for their food, it's pretty bitchin. Especially their restaurant, The Alamo; it might seem weird going to a restaurant in a park, but the food is great and the prices/serving sizes are better than a lot of stand-alone restaurants I've been to in the area.

2) Go on the Carousel and sit on the outside. It's one of a few brass ring Carousels left in America, which means there's an arm that holds out rings for riders to catch as they go by, and catching the brass ring gets you a free ride (or, more accurately, tickets equal to the price of the ride).

3) Remember that it's a pay-by-ride park. I haven't been to too many other parks, but from what I understand that's a little unusual these days. Look at the rides and figure out whether you'll ride enough to make an all-day wristband worth more than just getting the tickets, and remember that leftover tickets will still be good if you ever come back.

Enjoy Knoebels, it's definitely one of the best parts of Pennsylvania.

Guys, how the fuck do you build a gigantic park based off of Entrance Fees as the main income? At some point it will become impossible to offset the amount of money going towards keeping the rides running over your ability to shill the guests for entry fees because they just don't carry enough cash.

>> No.2601108

>>2601105
You find the minimum amount of money guests enter the park with, usually 40-50, set your park entry to that price, and never place ATM's. Guest leaves, and gets replaced with another 50 dollar guest. Certainly not as good as pay per ride at all, but it's something.

Don't use ATMs and periodically kick people out as you're building up from 200-1000.
Waiting for 2k+ peeps to leave takes too long, so by then you should just be getting new guests from marketing and general attrition

Also, >>2601108
Pay attention to what new guests spawn with and charge 80-85% of what they're carrying as your entrance price.

>> No.2603034

>>2603005
Bank your turns on coasters, make the hills about 80% as high as the last one.

When charging per ride, you can safely charge equal to the excitement rating. 1.25x the excitement rating is usually safe if you feel like squeezing even more money out. Thrill rides and some coasters can be charged for huge prices, i've been able to charge 10 bucks for a Launched Freefall. Get a few rides like this and you'll have a lot of money to mess with coasters

>> No.2603057

Pick a max speed then put friction creating things ahead to slow it

Realize that for 'normal' scenarios guests won't usually ride 7.5ish level Intensity rides, this means the fastest you should be going is 55-60mph, but that requires a lot of hills to lose the speed.
I usually keep things below 50mph (which also tops E around 7) and interweave rides for Excitement boosts instead of trying to build a 9/9/7 mega coaster.

Or set a hard limit like the 10x10 or 15x15 contests.

>> No.2603061

>>2603034
You can charge very high prices when a ride is brand new. Peeps will pay $10 or more for a coaster with average ratings if it is less than a couple years old. Peeps will also happily pay $20 for an umbrella when it rains, so build an info kiosk and set a high price--you'll get a bunch of money all at once when it starts raining, this way.

Maybe put a sign on the front part that goes over the grey path, some fencing around the coaster, and some scenery covering the queue. Even on top of the station so it looks more built up.

if you want that to be compact, don't make turns like that first big fan curve after the first drop large. that coaster isn't nearly large enough to need maximum size curved pieces on top of hills.

and if you use the articulated trains, you can get away with a LOT more tight, fast curves than you think.
look at the way real twister coasters do it, loads of proportionally small turns, twists, and curves low to the ground. speed isn't always your enemy in turns, use it to make your coasters exciting and fast-paced

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XH_M_AOnmM

it's incredibly fun to ride, and the reason why is because it doesn't burn off much any at all before going right into a flurry of tight, highly banked curves.

Are you sure? It looks like 5x5 to me, counting only the area of the coaster and not the entrance/exit complex.

If you're just alluding to the fact that the entrance and exit buildings are outside the 5x5 footprint, making it 5x6, you should note that most of the "5x5s" posted in this thread have that arrangement. While it's possible to make a decent 5x5 with the entrances buildings forced inside the 5x5 footprint (here was my attempt at that: >>2602925), it's such a limiting constraint that I think everyone agrees it's fair to count only the area of the coaster itself.

I love simple, compact looping coasters (my favorite coaster type!) that don't look like spaghetti. However, this could be improved if you can manage to bump the E stat up into the "high" range (nothing better than an E>I>N high-medium-low coaster!), and push the ride length over 60 seconds. This guy's suggestion is good: >>2604403

I just did that one and im kinda new, it was a bit stressful at the end but i made it. I think i have trouble with the ones where the park just gets money from entry tickets and stalls. I have trouble making stalls successful. Any advice?

>> No.2604432

>>2604413
That's exactly right. The maximum number of trains you can have on your ride is based on the number of block sections, so if you want to have more trains than what your current scheme gets you, you need to put more block breaks in "safe" stopping places for trains.

A train that starts from a stopped position on any block break should be able to complete the ride from that point on. That usually means the block breaks should be at the top of a hill. Note that chain lifts also count as block sections. If you have a split lift hill that goes around a corner, for instance, then the game will allow a train to be on both the upper and lower sections at the same time.

The number of block sections you want to have will depend on the length and type of the ride. I don't think you will often want more than 3 trains on a "typical" wood or steel coaster, because you don't really want the cars to be constantly stopping in the middle of the ride! But maybe on a ride with small cars like a wild mouse, you want to put block breaks all over the place so that you can have a ton of cars at once. In these cases, you will often want to have fewer trains than block sections so that there is always enough of a gap between trains that nobody has to stop in the middle of the ride.

People are gonna ride the shit out of that cute little coaster when you open it. I like the idea of adding a break section. If you want to make it more compact, you could try experimenting with separating the brake section from the station and putting it around a corner at a right angle. Build a cute little tent over it to match the station, of course, too.

Not sure if that's actually viable here but it could be worth a try.

My 5x5 wild mouse had breaks after like every drop, which is a little sad I guess, but it worked to produce a ride with quite decent stats in a very small package. I didn't stuff the queues under the track though, so I guess you could say I had slightly more room to work with.

I do love the idea of making a park (or section of a park) stuffed with differently themed 5x5 coasters, though. It would be very cute. I just need to find a scenario that has a huge variety of scenery and also has all the viable 5x5 rides (radius-1 turn coasters and curved lift hill coasters). What does that list of rides look like, anyway? Off the top of my head, I think it includes
>Wooden Wild Mouse
>Wild Mouse
>Spinning Wild Mouse
>Wooden Wild Mine Ride
>Inverted Hairpin
>Virginia Reel
>Spiral Coaster
>Junior Coaster

Oh, and what about powered launch coasters? I guess you could do it with those too, although it wouldn't be very comfortable for the riders.

After lurking in these threads I've decided too pick up on RCT again. I downloaded OpenRCT2 and downloaded the map packs in this thread.
But now I'm not sure where too start. Could you guys recommend me some comfy maps too play. I don't want too play for challenge too much, I just want a nice looking map where I can fuck around and hone my skill, maybe use the scenery too create a nice looking park.

>> No.2608590

So RCT3 is on tablets now.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/rollercoaster-tycoon-3/id1008692660?mt=8

It doesn't have the expansions and I know it is 3 but it's still pretty cool. Maybe they will put 1 and 2 on soon.

>> No.2608601

>>2608590
Not very likely due to the source code being written in x86 assembly. Even if they do port over 1 or 2 nearly all of it would have to be rewritten. Chris would be better off just writing a clone of the first two games from scratch.
