Ok, I've played many many crpgs, but I want to pool our experience together to create the perfect crpg. You decide the setting, theme/genre, story/plot, quest types, skills, classes, perks, weapons, monsters, villains, factions, extent, and depth, etc, etc.

So what will it be, I wonder?

>> No.2589189

I'll just give Chris Avellone a shit-ton of money and time to do whatever he wants to do.

-Infinity Engine.
-Classic Black Isle (Chris Avellone and all).
-Dune universe.
-GURPS like system.
-On 5+ disks.
-In a big cardboard box.
-Art direction based on the concept art of Jodorowsky's Dune, with Mœbius, H.R. Giger and/or Syd Mead supplementing additional art.
-Score by Frank Klepacki and Mark Morgan.
-Two sided poster with cool looking artwork on one side, useful setting info on the other.
-Star Map made out of cloth.
-A manual the size of a phone book that includes but is not limited to: faction info, skills, excerpts from the Orange Catholic Bible and a Dune series timeline.
-A couple of feelies that physically represent in game items.

I was never that into Dune. I like the box and all that, and Chris Avalon is a must. I was thinking more along the lines of original universe.

Well, you asked "us" what we'd want. Or are you going for a collaborative thing? What would be the point? There's no common denominator with those things, we all have our little dream projects to share. And an "original universe" designed by comity almost always just guarantees fan fic tier circlejerk anyways.
That said, what do "you" want, what's your idea of the "perfect" crpg?

>> No.2589408

>>2589370
Geeze. Calm down buddy. I didn't mean to insult you. I just don't know what the fuck you are talking about. I don't know any thing about dune, and therefore have no connection to your perfect game.

My perfect crpg is:

> Futuristic Chinese Mythology Steampunk
> Classic black isle
> DnD stats base
> Huge open world
> 3d environment, fully detailed and interactible
> 3rd person perspective
> Seamless environment. No loading breaks ever.
> Hunger, Fatigue, Disease, Carry weight, Rucksack system
> Everything is craftable, except artifacts and uniques.
> Jeremy Soule composing
> Gigantic durable box
> Models of some creatures / in game items
> Map written on Chinese Scrolls with classic tri-pen calligraphy
> In universe Bible, stating history and lore in the game
> ^ Book is hard-bound with detailed leather cover adorned with ornaments
> Manuel of all game mechanics size of a phone book
> Decorative scaled suit of armor from the game made from titanium

Hope you like mine.

I've always had this idea that a well made RPG based in the world of professional wrestling would be huge, I know Live-a-Live had their wrestling stuff, but I'm talking a full on in depth RPG about raising through the ranking to become a legend in the industry. You'd start off as a created scrubby gaijin who works as a janitor in the Wrestling dojo's of japan, but one day, you get a chance to prove yourself in the ring. There could be promo-cutting minigames and all sorts of shit.

I don't understand how we've gotten this far as a species without something like this yet to exist.

>> Package / Box

>> Manuel / Documentation
comes with a condensed yet comprehensive history of the sport, and a pocket dictionary of insider terms & their definitions. possible fold-out map of the game world ala Legend of Zelda, so you don't get lost in all your backstage shenanigans like spying on your upcoming opponent or asking the general manager for a title shot
>> Knick knacks
Includes optional epilogue where your "retired" character comes back as n authority figure and potential federation owner/booker. Welcome to WrestlingSimRPG3000!

Dude..... I always wanted to make a wrestling themed game. A la Gemfire/Romance based on wrestling. The game will have different timelines. The main storyline would take place in the early 80's-early 90's. Each territory would represent a different kingdom. So WWF would be like Cao Cao, and Tao Qian would be Smokey Mountain. Promoters would be the Kings, wrestlers would be the generals, and office/managers would be strategists. Someone make this.

rules: 1981 Basic D&D (and the matching Expert set too)

setting: generic medieval fantasy with orcs and elves and the typical real-world myths and legends thrown in

engine: that's rough, I can't think of anything ideal. But I like older stuff like Ultima and Wizardry style a lot more than 90's realtime 3D or even fancy-schmancy isometric. (90's stuff like Might & Magic III was alright though)

game style: something of a mix between hardcoded quests (basically very detailed and well-designed pre-gen dungeons of various types and size, even megadungeons) and sandbox. There could even be some random events that happen in the game world (I used to have a table for that when I DM'd real D&D games) and those create consequences and situations that your party can interact with. Well this is probably the most challenging aspect to get right, but also the most interesting...

pic sorta related, it's from AD&D but a campaign's gotta have some interesting personalities
