Anyone else really like this series? I love how charming it is while still being really fun to play. It's just a shame that many games aren't translated.

>> No.2579206

i love the old ass arcade one

mystical ninja on snes is good, but gets tough later on. i hate the passwords though, so maybe i'll just use an emulator

mystical ninja on n64 isn't very good imo. lots of padding.

The SNES games are amazing. I even liked the puzzle game with Ebisumaru to a lesser extent.

I remember the Hopkido people were strange

LOVE these games, just wish the other three SNES games were translated already.

I've only played the one in your pic at any length and it's a blast. I got damn good at that gopher-wacking game. Still have to beat Mystical Ninja, thanks for reminding me.

Both N64 Goemon games are must play.
Mystical Ninja starring Goemon might feel "dated" (hate that term) to some people who aren't used to older 3D platformers with mostly set camera, but if you can adapt to it, this game is one of the best 3D action games in the whole 5th gen, a Konami masterpiece. Much better than the Castlevania 64 transition (although it was made by the same team).
Goemon's Great Adventure hasn't "aged" one bit because it's pure sidescrolling action, it's like a culmination of all the previous 2D Goemon games up to that point. And after that, Konami went for "New Generation Goemon" or whatever. Must play.

All the SFC/SNES games are great. GG3 isn't translated and it requires knowledge of the language to advance through it, the first one, Goemon 2 and Goemon 4 are all great sidescrollers. Arguably Goemon 4 is the best in the series, and maybe one of the best SFC games Konami ever did. I prefer Goemon 2 personally but they're all amazing games.

There is also Mystical Ninja starring Goemon for Game Boy, it really has nothing to do with the N64 game, plotwise. Other than starring Goemon, of course.
It's okay, simple and playable, not the best Goemon game there is, but if you're a Goemon fan and can't get enough of it you can play this. There's also the first Goemon game for GB (Sarawareta Ebisumaru!) released in a Konami collection for GBC in Europe. So this one is translated and this version was also upgraded and added color to it, since it's originally a GB release from 1991.

That's all you've got from the franchise officially localized, there's also fantranslations of Goemon 2 from Famicom which I reccommend. There may be a few others. A lot of people want a translation of Goemon 4.
Truth is, while playing Goemon is great because the games are solid, missing on the silly, absurd humor sucks, because that's also a big part of the charm from the series. The good thing is that a lot of things don't make sense whether in english or japanese.

I rented this randomly one week when I was a kid and it's been true love ever since.

It's a shame Konami has doomed Goemon to an eternity of Pachislot releases.

I put Goemon's soundtracks in the same tier as Castlevania.

I played through Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon just recently and wasn't too impressed. There was very little challenge in both the platforming and puzzles. The biggest thing that stuck out to me was how every time you use Ebisumaru's camera to solve a puzzle, there is a sign that just tells you to use it. It really leaves the item with no purpose. The soundtrack is of course top notch and I love the dialogue and overall feel of the game, but I can't help but feel Goemon's Great Adventure outdoes it in nearly every aspect.

>> No.2579718

>>2579704

You can still use Ebisumaru's camera to defeat some other enemies, like the spirits that appear outside of festival village in the snow mountains.

>> No.2579782

>>2579718
That's true, which is why I said puzzles. It is used to defeat ghosts, but it has limited use. In comparison to Ebisumaru's horn ability in Great Adventure which is useful for pretty much the entire game, it's kinda useless.

Goemon 4's soundtrack really impressed me. The samples used are very high quality.

One of my favourite series.

I had almost got all the entry passes in Great Goemons adventure. I was only missing the one that Yae gets through her phone job.

but my n64 memory pak died and I lost it all.

it was me and my brothers game, we played the fuck out of it when I was 12.

And if you started shilling on Konami, the kid on the line would get fed up and hang on you.

the NES games and the MSX game all have fan translations, the platforming sections that you have in the later games aren't there but I actually like them better that way, but I'm not a fan of platforming games.

I believe Etsunobu Ebisu didn't produce those "new generation" Goemon games, I could be wrong though.
Anyway, they redeemed themselves by putting New Gen Goemon in jail in the last Goemon game for DS, calling him an impostor.

>We get to a sidescrolling section in a castle, with platforms jutting out of rotating columns
>columns spin at different speeds and you need to jump back and forth several times between 3 different columns to reach the next floor
We simply couldn't do it and gave up after half an hour of trying.
I subsequently checked a couple walkthroughs and none made mention of the absurd platforming difficulty. Guess we're both just filthy casuals.
