2570947 No.2570947 [Reply] [Original]

In commemoration of watching Bootsy beat a no-warp, no-continue run of Battletoads lets share our hardest game victory achievements.

Mine is a no-continue run of Rad Racer.

Not sure why you would even think that, considering how SGDQ is for speedrunner with intricate knowledge of a game and not a venue for people who can beat a game without continues, savestates, or gamefaqs (which is is apparently a big fucking challenge now).

An expert is someone like Daigo who can consistently win Street Fighter tournaments or Cosmo who's a good speedrunner. Being able to play video games without cheat codes, save states, or continues isn't a huge fucking accomplishment. That's just the normal way they're meant to be played.

I had the patience to get both endings of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde the first time I played it. I guess some people might consider that an achivement.

Personally I didn't find it too difficult when compared to other NES games. It's just the sloppy and delayed as hell controls that give it a bad rep. Obvious control issues aside, I thought it felt similar to modern day endless runners that are popular on mobile (except way more channenging obviously).

I got to the final level boss rush on Ghouls'n'ghosts the other day. Took me ages to do it but fuck me if I can beat it though. It's way too hard to not only survive the gauntlet of red arremers and get to the ladder that brings you to the boss, but then you have to kill the boss, fight the two heads from the first boss, fight two bosses, then somehow avoid the mini cloud bosses.
I couldn't get past the clouds so I don't know what comes next but it's probably hell incarnate.

I got to the final level of Angry Video Game Nerd adventures a few times. That was a real gauntlet too. (I know it's not /vr/ but it's definitely designed to be pretty old-school)
But that final level, man it devours any lives and continues you have left almost instantly.

I need to get good at video games.
