What are some games with difficult controls that require great precision in order to get from point A to point B without dying?

WipEout 2097's Piranha ship is an absolute beast to control and requires great amounts of precision. It's like playing a different game.

And that's not even the really tough one! It's the jumps in City of Forever that I usually get stuck on for a while, even after all this time.

Fighters and Shmups are probably the two big genres for this. A no deaths run Gaiares is probably one of the most challenging out there.

Honorable mention goes to Tetris when you get to level 9 and above, having to start pressing the direction you want your next bock to move before it even appears on screen.

Hit detection is a little odd at times, but you get used to it. Personally I love how tough it is, it hits that shooter sweet spot of getting just the right upgrades at the right times and the tension of knowing getting hit even once means you may as well just restart.

Flashback is a cinematic platformer. If you think that's precision, you're mistaken. It's pretty much the opposite of precision as Conrad moves on a "grid" of sorts.

>> No.2574612

>>2574590
well you are right in the sense that you may not need a huge spatial precision since the game does it "by itself", but you do need a timing precision, which is still precision of some sort...i guess

Which exactly part from these games you need some precise platforming? For S2 I can only think the area in Mystic Cave zone where you must avoid because is a unescapable spike pit, some jumps on Metropolis Zone and the Wing Fortress Zone, the rest is pretty forgiving. And S3 is even more forgiving in this sense. The first title requires you to proceed cautiously way more times

Here's how I got good. Some may shit on me for it, but I don't care. I started doing a full playthrough with cheat codes on once before practicing on doing actual runs. I would still try to play normally and not get hit, but know that if I did then it wasn't a big deal and I could continue going through, learning the patterns and which powerups I needed to steal. Eventually I was good enough that I could get through the whole thing on my own. It took a long time though, I had a security guard job back then with hours and hours to do nothing but practice.

Also the great thing about dying in Gaiares is that you get to hear that baller level 1 music again!

I don't think I've legitimately even attempted City of Forever even once. The shortcut is honestly much easier to just accidentally stumble upon than it is making that first jump.

Op here
I always thought Sonic 2 and 3, and Mario 64 had great controls, in fact Mario 64 controls seem perfect and almost miraculous to me, they got 3d platformer controls right the first try, the problem with Mario 64 was the camera, not the controls.

I will try Glover, Wipeout 2097, Oddworld and Double Dragon 2, thanks.

I think the first Rayman has a reputation of being a game like the one I am looking for, so I might give it a try too.

The pc version of G-Police because you had to navigate Not-Blade-Runner world with arrow keys so it was like a constant flurry of keypresses to maintain a path since each keypress would put you near but just over the path you wanted to take so by aiming 35 directions you didn't want to go over the course of a second it averaged out to the direction you actually wanted to go.
