Can we talk about one of my favorite PlayStation games? I found a demo video with differences not even in the original Japanese release.

I don't understand why Tenchu was praised in Ps1 and somehow hated in ps2.

I've never heard anything bad about the third game. I in fact love it for the moveable camera. And it's eons better than Shadow Assassins.

It's more a press thing. Tenchu 3 have a rating of 79 in metacritic, not that bad. But the metascore of Fatal Shadows, in my opinion the best game in the series, it's 58.
It's like in some moment Tenchu stopped being cool, except for the fans.

I find Fatal Shadows more challenging than the previous games.
Also, is Tenchu 2: Birth of The Stealth Assassins /vr/? It was released on ps1, but in 2000.

Yes, everything released on ps1 it's considered retro. It's not about the release date but the platform.

Debug menu is fun as fuck.

>shoot arrows, bullets and lightning out of your chest while zipping around on lightfoot scrolls like an asshole

>grapnel up the side of the tower instead of going through the tedious inside, lay like 50 mines, then walk near the door to trigger the cutscene
>Onikage walks in to shit talk and is immediately blown the fuck up
>he literally disappears and now I can't finish the stage

Worth it.

My man.

It feels bad that they sold the Tenchu name and everybody did whatever the hell they wanted with it.
Did anybody here play the shinobi hyakusen version? It was filled goodies, like https://youtu.be/GKWpagWQFGI

I did a no damage and no items run with Ayame not too long ago.

Actually Tenchu returned to Acquire since Tenchu 4. And nou the franchise it's more dead than ever ;_;

>> No.2568660

I think the first two were loved because of the metal gear stealth fad/fashion of the time. People are fickle and I guess the later games didn't really develop on it enough. I played the first two and thought they were pretty good despite the hardware limitations. I'm currently playing through wrath of heaven on ps2 and it's pretty good. Did they up the difficulty? I don't remember it being so hard. The enemies patterns are harder and there's this limestone level early on and it's full of nasty drops.

It was even released earlier, I'm pretty sure it's a loved series for its own merits. First time I was introduced on this game I still was in high school. Usually I don't get nostalgia'd because I'm always playing retrogames but this shit is special. Also,

Tenchu came out a year before though. I played the shit out of the Japanese version, first import game I owned. I still think it's the best in the series, maybe it's the level design, I don't know. Third (?) stage where you went up a mountain was great. Later games just seemed really half assed.

Those English voices though, holy shit.

I don't find that to be the case. The hit detection is sometimes funny (in that he doesn't always trigger the animation, just the stealth kill) and jumping can be kinda floaty, but I still like the games. Two of my favorites on PS, and I find them much more replayable than MGS.

No, but we're not talking about the first Metal Gear. It wasn't until 1998 or so that stealth games were even a genre, which is what we're talking. Metal Gear barely qualifies, rudimentary as it is.

I think it is. There's also Shinobi Hyakusen with 122 missions made with the editor and lots of videos, extras and stuff. One thing i really like about Tenchu it's all the content we usually have in every game, like all that game modes in Tenchu 3.

It is not /vr/ but after giving away the Tenchu name, Acquire tried again and released Shinobido.
The characters are weak, but the game is incredible. The mechanics have all been improved. It blew my mind when finding a dead body, the guard looked around and then decided to look up, where I stood like an idiot on a roof.

Shinobido it's a masterpiece, even being really different to Tenchu. I love the idea of working for differents lords, helping one, betraying the other.
Too bad Acquire have so little production outside Tenchu and Way of the Samurai.

I will never forget throwing rice balls and reusing them over and over again to distract guards.

Or guards catching them and starting to eat them. "Oh, hey rice from heaven. Thanks gods."

Or the randomly placed female orgasm sound on the distracting ocarina.

Tenchu was awesome.

Does DEBUG mod not work on emulators? I know I input the code correctly because the "pause" message disappears and if I press select I can see that i can advance the game frame by frame. But when I hold L2+R2 to open the options nothing comes up? I've tried both PSXFIN and Epsxe so far. Couldn't get mednafen to work.

Yeah, but I said in the description, I wasn't really trying to do a speedrun, I chopped some loading screens to shorten the time.
About that dog, I left him alive in one of the gameplays, and dodging Onikage I eventually backed up enough to a point where it saw me. And then I got hit. Everytime I got hit and had to replay the whole thing was because of one of the Onikage fights.

But the problem is that if he connects the first kick he will usually do a combo, and you can only block the first hit. That is why the fights against him dragged on for so long. I don't remember if Rikimaru can block more than one hit, but with Ayame it really didn't work.
