Yeah I remember when I first played DKC back when it released and that final level of world 1 before the boss seemed hard to me. I can breeze through it blindfolded nowdays.

The one I had the most trouble with, and was just before a save point, was the blizzard level on the snow map. I think most people struggled with that one at one point.

you know you can return to the first stage at anytime. there are like 9 lives in the tree tops in the first level alone

I thought the DKC games from Rare were challenging
But since the Retro's ones I now think they're a piece of cake

This.

Reaching the safe point on the snow map felt like heaven.

Tropical Freeze is more difficult than anything in the Rare games aside from the Lost World of DKC2, and the time trials and hard mode are great. I find myself failing the higher level stuff in that game way more often than I died in the original trilogy.

The difference is just that Retro's games throw lives in your face so you're never getting a game over. Rare's DKC had specific save points and later made you pay for them, so the challenge was less about beating a particular level and more about reaching the save or funky flights before you got a game over and had all your progress reset.

They take two different approaches.

That's the hardest part of the game. You have to go through several levels until you reach the save point.

No. You people need to stop this. There is absolutely no reason "tbh" or "to be honest" ever needs to be said. If you are being honest than you don't have to say that you are. And if you aren't being honest than saying "tbh" would do nothing to convince me that you are. Why do you all insist on talking like uneducated children?

if you're talking about the barrel part, then I remember that I accidentally found a shortcut that went through each of the barrels by accidentally hitting the eject from the barrel at the wrong time
also I remember there was a rhino coin in between two bees that would reappear every time you died so if you died three times then you could basically get all of your lives back and possibly +1

Oh lookie, a little kid has solved language. Bravo little kid, bravo.

Just kidding, you are stupid and don't understand semantics. To be honest conveys something and if you can't figure out what that means then just fuck off.

It's compounded by the fact that the barrel levels aren't fun at all. It's reaction based and starts to feel really horrible if you don't get it after a while.

I'd have to disagree with that, I liked the barrel levels the same way how I liked the rest of the game

As much as I desperately want to believe I share this board with other people of my age group, you all do your very best to convince me the average age here is 18 and under. I left /v/ to avoid arguing middle-schoolers, not find different ones. Not to mention everyone pretending to talk like urban youth to fit in with a bunch of people you've never met on the internet.

That was the level that made DKC take way longer for me than it should have as a child. I'd quit and not pick the game up for months.

>> No.2565091

Hardest part in DKC for me was when you finished the snow world and went to that first industrial level. The end of the industrial level was so hard for me to time. I had to make sure I had two guys and the rhino to take hits on the fire barrels and just rush through it.

This shortcut is one of Rare's best design decisions. Snow Barrel Blast is easily the game's hardest level, and that shortcut is perfectly placed in a spot where you'd only get it if you mess up in an easy spot, something only likely to happen once the level gets frustrating. It's such good design, truly exemplary.

I still think in this game Rare was more worried about the graphics and left the gameplay in second place in order to recover the money from the machines they had to buy to make the 3D graphics. I'm glad it didn't bombed and they managed to fix all the flaws in DKC2
