Okay people, I'm getting payed in 3 weeks and I wanna buy a genesis with my first paycheck. Which version do i buy? Any shmups i should try and get? I really like gradius 3 for SNES if that gives any idea of what i like

The version doesn't really matter, as far as I know, except maybe that the video output was kinda shitty on the Megadrive 2's european version (but it can be fixed very easily).

As for shoot'em ups, I recommend you all the Thunder Force games, and Musha.

Thanks! Also what's the story with Chaotix and all that shit? Should i go for attachments to the console? and stuff? I'm a bit of a philistine when it comes to sega shit besides the Dreamcast

Well, I'm way more versed in the super nes than the megadrive, but I'll give it a try. Sorry if I'm wrong, sega experts.

About the attachments, the only one that's interesting is the Sega CD, because there are a handful of nice games (like Vay, Popful Mail, Dark Wizard...).

About the games themselves, on a broad view:

Al(l?)adin, Splatterhouse 2 & 3, all the Shinobi you can find, Speedball 2 (since you have a friend to play with), Space Harrier, Outrun, Shining and (in?) the Darkness, all the Shining Force, Vermillion (or was it Sword of Vermillion?), that one Phantasy Star game, Landstalker, Crusader of Centy (not sure about the title, it was totally renamed here), Beyond Oasis/Story of Thor, Comix Zone... I must be missing tons of them, but that's all I can think of right now.

Depends on how much money you want to spend and what you want to play. You could buy an X'Eye or CDX right out of the gate and burn many good games to play on it with your initial budget or typy could buy a "High Definition Graphics" model 1 and a Chinese everdrive then try to find a reliable Sega CD later (they're rather unreliable compared to CDX and X'Eye)

If you're a poorfag just buy whatever's on your Craigslist for $25
