It's an FPS for Amiga 500. Don't get your hopes up too much though... The game isn't raytraced like on the cover (now wouldn't that be something?) It's more like a really weird, alien and low-color Wolf3D clone. At least that's what I gather from the screenshots. (haven't tried this one yet).

I didn't play that game, but in the video it looks pretty fluid and smooth. Keep in mind this was designed to run on a 7 MHz 16-bit cpu with a bitplane video architecture that was better suited and optimized for 2D stuff than 3D. All things considered, it looks pretty good (dunno about the actual gameplay though, have to try it for real and see...)
Just think if you could code something equivalent on an 8 MHz IBM AT with EGA card... That's about the kind of raw power you're looking at in this context (3D game).

Also, many, many things were published in Europe. Everything from this FPS game here, to stuff like Lemmings, Another World, Flashback, Pinball Dreams, Worms, Alien Breed, The Chaos Engine, and pic-related. Oh and also lots of bad arcade ports by Ocean (most of their Amiga stuff was pretty horrible anyway). But at least there was a great variety of games back then, and some very weird, creative things too (even if they did or didn't pan out so great as a game).

European games had a wackiness and autism to them that was largely absent from American gaming of the period. If you looked at computer games on the Commodore 64, Apple II, PC, Amiga that were typically found here, they could pretty much all be summed up as "War Sim", "Dungeon Crawler", "Adventure Quest", and "Sports Sim". There is no US equivalent of Creatures or Dizzy.

That's a really nice cover. Is there really enough memory to do BASIC stuff on ZX81 though? I figured most games would be coded in asm. Could a stock ZX81 for example run the programs in David Ahl's "101 BASIC Computer Games" book (and the follow-up book), or would the bigger programs just not fit in memory?

I always wondered that, because the very first machine I used was an Osborne with 64KB, and then an Amstrad CPC with 128KB. Never once ran into memory problems for those simple games.

Probably not since those games are designed for standard Microsoft BASIC while the ZX81's BASIC is different and quite a bit more limited.

There seems to have been a few games based on this battle. Here's one from another publisher (CCS), with design by Robert T. Smith (I guess he's famous in the wargame scene). This game was actually the first in a series, followed by Desert Rats, and Vulcan. These were ported to several of the popular 8-bit machines from those days.(Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum) and also to DOS and Amiga.

Megaman's face always looked so weird to me in these game covers

Like some chubby cocky little faggot

Why couldn't the American boxes just be like the Japanese ones?

I'm not saying carbon-copy it but at least give him a better facial expression
