Yeah, some people like their sprites to have the little holes in them, I don't, the more you melt them the more square they get, plus, they are less likely to break. Pic related is an example of what I'm saying, I personally don't like how they look.

>>2558246
Just as you mentioned, I also melt the back side for extra support to avoid the projects from breaking. I like to use Parchment paper instead of the ironing paper that's included, I use the Reynolds brand, works pretty nicely and spreads heat evenly and kinda gives the beads a "smooth" texture. When I iron, I melt the front side a little bit, just enough so that every bead melts enough to hold themselves, take it off the board, iron the backside a little bit as well, and then I go with the frontside again, this time I iron for a longer time until all beads get that square shape and the holes go away. I always use the highest heating setting. If the sprite is way too large, I usually go with the taping method, although I don't like to use it since it's kinda risky, just the smallest mistake can ruin an entire project and it's the most frustrating thing ever. You also have to poke holes in every bead on the taped side, otherwise heat will not be distributed well and your beads will melt unevenly and will leave huge holes.

I think the flatter/more melted beads look a lot better for large pieces like this. On the smaller ones I think I prefer the more circular ones.

You're comparing original pencil drawings to copying pre-made sprites out of perler beads? You're retarded.

Pencil and paper for one do not have guides to make sure you don't fuck up. And even if you're using a reference image, you still have to have enough skill to replicate it.
It's impossible to fuck up perler bead sprites unless you put the wrong color down. With a reference image, it's literally just color matching.

So if they are arranged in a different way but using the same medium it is fine? Also, since you don't seem to mind legos, the same can be said for them, you can't fuck up with those either, you jist fix the mistake.

In the end, who cares if one takes more skill or longer time to make? Even a bunch of paint splashes in a canvas that could be done in a minute can be called art.

>you jist fix the mistake.
You're right, you can fix the mistake. You can do that with almost any medium, and it'd be dumb not to take advantage of that.
With Lego, you have more freedom than with perler beads since you're always working in three dimensions. Plus you don't really have guides. With perler beads, you literally have a set area to work with and you cannot deviate from that.

Impressive work. Taking an illustration and creating a 3D rendering from of it is admirable work and the final product is excellent.

I'm a little confused, though. You mentioned that it was 3D printed and "you took inspiration" from the guide illustration, which makes it sound like you did the work yourself. But you also said the Bird Key "arrived today," making it sound like you ordered/commissioned it from somewhere. Which is it?

Also, I didn't know you could 3D print things in steel. How much more expensive was that compared to plastic?

>> No.2563160

>>2563074
Which ones?

>>2563092
I got inspiration, so to speak, from the artwork from the player's guide. These are 3D models made with Blender using the intuitive Sculpt Mode (after subdividing a cube lots of times) and uploaded/ordered through a firm called Shapeways, they offer lots of different materials. Steel costs a lot more than plastic, but if one makes the model a bit hollow then the production does not cost too much for reasonable sized items.

I see now how the title of the thread "Fan Made Retro Art" made this very subjective to the actual *physical* creation process, regarding my own contribution to the thread. I apologize for that.

Not that guy, but it depends on material and size really. It's all by-comission stuff. I've seen little bits and bobs made for amiibo mods that cost almost nothing, but I imagine those keys were relatively pricy.

Not any of the other guys but I've been experimenting with 3-dimensional bead sprites. I made this Castlevania one awhile back.

I mean, they did ask for video game related Art and all.

Sort of leads to someone looking up an art site for art. What are we supposed to do instead of get art from the art site?

Apparently you're supposed to find it indirectly (though Google etc) and then scrub the picture of any watermarks because if it's from a website other than 4chan, it's not allowed to enter 4chan because it's dumb. That's how the internet works.

OP asked for game related ART. Not game related fetish fuel fanfiction about Sonic and Twilight sparkle with a described "anime design" self insert personal fantasy.

Either get real art or GTFO

This is the only good bead project in this thread purely because of the scale.

Beading isn't hard, it's not original, it's not creative. Stop pretending it's cool (except for this Mega Man one)

On the topic of Espers, I always imagined magicite to by a crystal with the Esper inside of it. Like, say you had Ifirit''s magicite or whatever it would be a green crystal with Ifirit inside of it.

Fan art book of Zelda stuff from all the games, with descriptions.

I don't think I want to spend money on this unless I could leaf through it. For all I know it could be awful, but from the images it looks interesting. Too obscure for bookstores though, and apparently too obscure for someone to scan.
