I don't believe Legend could inspire anything. Probably the most forgettable fantasy movie from its time. All I remember about it is that some ugly elves that work for Satan try to kill a unicorn or something and it has to do with some girl's virginity and Tom Cruise and then she's in hell or something. I don't know, it was so bad I erased it all from my memory apparently. Don't remember how it ended, Tom Cruise probably saved the unicorn and the girl got stuck with the devil.

Berserk definitely inspired FF7 and FFT.

And Mad Max inspired the look of Guts. As well as Kenshiro, and from that extension, as well as Jonathon Joestar.

It's actually pretty amazing what amount of pop culture George Miller had a hand in, by creating that type of movie so early on. And just this year, he made the best movie of his own series. What a fuckin' guy.

Like how Popeye is a plumber who jumps over barrels and powers up with a hammer. Got it.
You're trying to turn a bit of vidya trivia into something it isn't. The original concept of the game didn't have Popeye. The released game didn't have Popeye. Somewhere in between someone though it would be a good idea to make it Popeye themed and that never happened.

Mario's role of the hero akin to, Popeye, to stop Donkey Kong who's akin to Bluto, to save Pauline who's like Olive Oil

Popeye= Hero
Bluto= Big Villain
Olive Oil= Damsel

Guess it does awfully more generic than I thought. I dunno, trying to show my thought process.

>> No.2542036

>>2541918

It's pretty much common knowledge that Miyamoto was influenced by cartoons like Popeye in many ways. The entire love triangle dynamic between Donkey Kong, Pauline, and Mario is straight up Popeye whether you want to believe it or not.

>> No.2544073

>>2542002
Yeah, that totally couldn't be said of anything else.

>>2542004
Yeah, it's pretty generic. I'm not saying it wasn't an influence just that OP is really over dramatizing how much of an influence it was.

>>2542036
When you base your entire argument on a love triangle quote lifted from a wiki you know you're desperate. As I've pointed out, the original game didn't have Popeye. It's a simple damsel in distress concept that uses nearly no other properties from Popeye. How you can continue to argue that Popeye is a big reason Mario exists is a mystery. Well, not really. We all know what spectrum causes it.

you fucking idiot miyamoto wanted to make a popeye game and couldn't have the license so he made donkey kong from the idea for his popeye game and when that got successful they granted him a license for popeye now fuck off kid.

Wasn't Mega Man originally going to be an Astro Boy game that they bailed on and Capcom just converted to an original game?

>> No.2546410

>>2546385
I think Capcom lost the license for Astro Boy pretty early on, so Mega Man was mostly an original game with heavy Astro Boy inspiration.

Mega Man X was inspired by Casshern, although I don't think that was ever going to be a licensed product at any point in its development.

I didn't say it was based off of the Warriors series. My wording was a little funny, but I meant to say it was a spinoff of a series inspired by the Warriors.

Double Dragon took what Renegade started and expanded upon it. Both incorporate elements of the Warriors. The influence isn't as pronounced in Double Dragon as it is in Renegade, but it's still there.

The lore that 98.8% of fantasy games has beaten into the ground over and over and over again. I think I've been elved and dwarved enough for FIVE lifetimes, my god. At this point a high fantasy game would have to be an 11/10 for me to have any chance of stomaching it. I think every permutation of high fantasy has been done; in a few months NASA will mathematically prove that nothing more can be done with anything that borrows from Tolkien.
