That looks fucking awesome.

Does Tobal No. 1 count as obscure? Sure, it was released by Square and had an FFVII demo, but it barely made a blip despite being an imaginative 3D fighter with Toriyama designs and that unique dungeon mode.

This was definitely not bad for a licensed game. The level designs are pretty solid, and there's plenty of aesthetic quality to be found since they're based on an ancient Greek setting.

The game has you progressing from one linear stage to the next, each with its own objective. Usually you have to rescue hostages, escort allies to safety or defeat major villains. You can optionally collect permanent strength and armor power-ups, and there's a bonus ending you can unlock for collecting all the hint scrolls scattered throughout each level.

I believe it's still cheap on the reseller market, so pick it up and give it a shot.

It's the successor to Star Luster, but Star Ixiom is my favorite game on the console. It's pretty cool when you get to the stage where you fight galaga later and the old theme song starts playing.

Azito

Series of three games on the PS, with new sequels being made today (3DS, XBO). City building, management, simulation. Create an underground complex to defend against kaijuu attacks, while keeping your workers happy and researching new military technology. Tons of depth, as to be expected from a simulation game. References and cameos from old sentai shows are a bonus.

It's a menu based simulation game, so I wouldn't say it's easy to understand, no. You need some basic Japanese to play. The third one has the most content, although I've spent the most time in the second game.

I'm looking for an obscure PS1 game, Japan only. I think it was an action type game that involved monsters and tops. I think the monsters rode on top of the tops? And you could train and get new monsters? Not to sure on those, but it definitely was a monster battling top game and it was NOT Beyblade.
