It's a story heavy first person adventure game with survival horror elements, made by FromSoftware (King's Field).

Basically you go into ghosts memories and unfold every ghost and character story, unfolding the big picture little by little.

This is the 2nd in the series. The first one, on Playstation too, got a wolrdwide release; and so did the third in the series, Echo Night: Beyond on PS2. Both are masterpieces (ENB even more so if you ask me), and now we'll get to find out if this one is too.

Yeah the little I've seen of it (I've always tried not to watch too much in order not to spoil myself for the day it the translation is out), i've always thought it's some of the best PS1 graphics I've seen. Plus for some reasons i'm a big sucker for first person PS1 graphics like that (King's Field, ...Iru!, The Note, etc)

already playing it. patch works great.
game's premise is about finding your missing girlfriend and then all kinds of crazy shit happens.

>>2528782
no, I don't think walking and stuff feels faster.
it's normal for that game though but I'm not gonna spoil for you why that walking speed limitation adds to that game. you probably can figure it out already. but I'm already hooked, lol.

>> No.2529765

>>2529520
actually, scratch what I said about walking speed. the options in the game can adjust it.

here's a walkthrough done by somebody who already played it in japanese. helped me at one really tricky point already. just look it up if you're stuck.

>> No.2531523

I'm already doing the east wing of the mansion.
still can't decide if I like the first Echo Night more. I think I like it a bit more. But it's still really damn good.

that music riddle is kind of hard for people who are not into music theory but the game actually lets you skip that part.

I've tried a couple times but get bored pretty quickly. Neat idea, though. I like that it had a dedicated button to see what's chasing you.

haven't seen any gambling bits yet. I think I'm nearing the end of the game anyhow. I feel like the first game had more content. I sure loved exploring the ship. then again, EN 2 has deeper focus on story somehow.

>> No.2534917

How is the first one compared to this in terms of pacing, mechanics and overall dificulty?

I think I'm nearing the end so I'd like to try the first game after I'm done.

What a great ending.
Someday I might even play it again to get the other one.

>> No.2538265

>>2537475
oh dang, I still haven't finished it. I had to start over because I lacked a candle to make a ghost visible so I can get all the astral pieces. the walkthrough says there is a candle on a desk but then there totally wasn't. very cute pic though.

>>2534917
It's much more varied. pacing is about the same. difficulty spikes here and there. EN 2 is more mellow and has less locations in total, if I remember correctly.

>> No.2540882

guys, quick question, because the walkthrough doesn't help. (Spoilers ahead):

for those of you who finished it, where do I find an oil lamp again after I get captured by George and Albert?

It's not in the backbag anymore. I need to free the last spirits of the kids who are hiding. And without a lightsource the kid at the boatshed is invisible. What do?
the only people with an oil lamp are George who got taken away by the river and Franco but I think I remember I couldn't take his lamp after he dies.

>> No.2541531

>>2540882

Sorry, but I didn't find the lamp ever again after getting caught.

it's alright, anon. I think I figured out what the problem is. But that would mean I have to replay it completely. Here goes:

Do you remember that panel where you need a number code in front of the door at the central wing corridor? you just have to put in the correct code (586,I believe) BEFORE getting caught and losing the lamp. I haven't tried it out yet but that way you'd receive the medallion and the questline for the hiding kids from that girl way earlier instead of coming through the secret passage into the room.

you'd still have the oil lamp for the kid in the boatshed. I think this is the only time where you really need the lamp. not sure about the dining hall but I think there is light in there anyway. the other 2 hiding spots can only be reached if you lost the lamp already. You wouldn't need it though but make sure you have one candle left. That candle is super essential for that managerial office too.

So, I'm playing through the first Echo Night now. Just got to the lower pars of the ship and got the sister's astral pieces.

Any advice for later segments that are easy to mess up or I'm good as I am?
