There was a Gauntlet thread a little while back, but I don't think it got many replies. Let's try a general hack and slash thread instead.

Aside from Diablo and Gauntlet, what are some other great hack and slash games or series? I'm actually not that familiar with any retro series aside from the aforementioned, so I'd like to get some recommendations while I'm at it.

Nox, maybe? I know it's more of an RPG, and maybe my nostalgia glasses are on (I used to play while my mom was at work, and she'd play during the day while I was at school and we'd discuss it later), but it's a pretty neat game.

Honestly, if you love this sort of sword and sorcery hack and slash style stuff, the real good stuff are the beat em ups. Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder, King of Dragons, Dungeons and Dragons: Tower of Doom.

All for arcade, though King of Dragons has a good SNES port, and D&D got released on the Saturn in Japan only.

gauntlet legends was awful for multi player. that stupid ass tag game that poped up randomly all you would hear is red wizard is it blue wizar green war red wizard is it for the whole fucking level. still love the game solo though.

Yeah played lots of this and the first game on Amstrad CPC. Also: Druid (but that game was confusing for me). Also, Wizard's Lair:

Must have been a Spectrum port (doesn't really take advantage of CPC graphics) but the game plays well.
