I remember that this game had come out without me even realizing it. At the time I would sometimes play vidya with my neighbor across the street, and one day he brought FF9 over. I heard those big-ass drums at the beginning of every battle, using the same beat which started battles in the first FF and I was hooked. I went out that very next weekend and bought it.

Pretty understandable! I knew he was a guy because I'd been following news on the game, but fully expected to detest him. Along with Steiner who I thought looked like some five year old wrapped their Buzz Lightyear in tinfoil and put mascara all over it.

Then they ended up being a couple of my favorite FF characters ever.

Almost ingenious how the core 4 characters reflected one of the most basic parties from the first Final Fantasy.
