Looks cool right up to the face. At that point the posing makes it look like it's about to throw down for a rap/break dance battle. Good to know the concept of butterface extends outside its normal context.

I'm a sucker for arcade sequels and reboots. Incidentally, this one turned out to be a pretty good game. Just the platforming sequences were bullshit in later stages.

Also on PC and Dreamcast.

A pretty decent budget buy. I got it for $5 sealed several years back. Game is tough as balls, but has some nice environments, and plenty of freedom.

The PC port was handled by another studio and turned out to be a completely different game, aside from sharing the same plot elements.

This is the only real-time RPG I've seen on the NES. The interface is a little clunky and takes some getting used to, and the exclusively first-person perspective is very confusing considering that many environments consist of open spaces. Instead of always moving along walls of trees, you'll mostly be taking several dozen steps through plains that have no distinguishing features.

It's still a pretty good game when you get into it. Seems like something of a hidden gem.

the protag on the box art shouldn't be admiring his sword considering the large cobra looming nearby.

Hikari no Shima - Seven Lithographs In Shining Island

Adventure/puzzle game where you control three characters, who have slightly differing abilities. Each stage presents a couple challenges similar to a point & click game, i.e. find the special object, use it on the other object, open the door, etc. No Japanese required.

I think I'm the only one who ever mentions this game. It's basically a roguelike-inspired dungeon crawl with Final Fantasy cameos. The mechanics aren't as strict as conventional roguelikes, though. For instance, death isn't permanent. You tend to lose all your items, but you still retain your levels and stats.

so a mystery dungeon? how is this game rogue-like if those games were text based.

You might call it a rogue-like-like if you want.
Or torneko inspired since torneko did it first.

Not sure how obscure this one is. It certainly should be, because it sucks balls, despite the cool premise
