Why is Comix Zone so badass /vr/?

>> No.2513823

Because it's a beatem'up that plays like an adventure game! And you've overpowered got secret moves and multiple paths even though it's short.

>> No.2513827

>>2513808
Came out in the very middle of the 90s, on the most 90s game console, with the most 90s game soundtrack and the most 90s character design

>> No.2513837

>>2513827
Pretty fucking accurate. This shit needed a sequel.

>> No.2513867

because sega does what nintendont

Because it is all of the early 1990s popular culture rolled into a single Genesis cart.

>> No.2513873

You know what's weird? When I rented this game, the CD was actually included with it in a paper sleeve.

>that slogan doesn't just get me nintendohard
yeah, it sucks.

>> No.2513969

It's mostly just the presentation that's cool.

I played through this for the first time recently. It didn't really blow me away, but I had a good time.

What bothers me more than anything is that you see these types of creative games less and less today.

>> No.2514331

Why would you play Comix Zone when Streets of Rage exists?

>> No.2514975

>>2514331

Hey man they're both good.

But Comix Zone just has a style all to it's own.

I'm really glad we didn't have comparative advertising in Europe and thus didn't end with this somewhat shitty campaign. The Megadrive was popular due to its own merits, not because the company was taking a dump on the competition with its catchphrase.

Sega, c'est plus fort que toi.

Did you take it?

That's comparing apples and oranges, the combat took an entirely different approach. For one, it's single lane, no vertical movement at all. You can block and pull off fighter style command moves, you can use items, you can use objects in the environment to your advantage, most fights can be avoided or altogether without fighting, and so on.

>> No.2515294

Was this even released in Japan? I can't find a copy anywhere.

I ripped the songs, but I didn't take the CD.

I'm used to seeing horrible western covers of japanese games but this is the first time I've seen it in reverse.

I agree sega had so many arcade franchises and styled games, just because nintendo's iconic first run + sequels for all platforms forever didnt mean they couldn't shine on their own virtues. Slightly better graphics and sound. I am the guy you're replying to btw, I like both camps but find the wars comical tbh.

it's not so bad if you suspend disbelief and say to yourself,
>the main character's widows peak probably looks like a penis in vertical view
>what's up with that guy with the stach patch combo?
>why is the female lead a linebacker for the pats?
>is the rat your best friend?

I feel like those questions could see me 30 minutes into gameplay before playing something that doesn't try so damn hard. But it's the genesis so that's hard, maybe rondo?

>is that the md? must be the 90's

>> No.2515643

While i like the music and graphics of Comix Zone, i think the combat is pretty bland, the platforming/adventure aspect of the game is cool though.

Because it was really unique with its whole comic book gimick.

Wasn't it basically required to abuse the rat the entire way to recover health and find stuff? I remember that punching your way to a new panel would also decrease your health... could be wrong, but I recall health being an issue at some point.

My friends and I did a lets play of this about 4 months back. It had some brutal areas. I think that's why it was so bad assed. It didn't hold your hand. Some of the enemies were a huge pain in the ass. It was fun.

>> No.2515779

I bought the soundtrack ages ago, expecting some badass Comix Zone sounds and all I got was some music from a band I never heard before.

If by abuse you mean letting the rat down to search the background panels, then yes. You could also use the rat to scare the amazonian women.

The Megadrive was popular because Nintendo doesn't care about Europe

Or Australia. Both the Master System and the Mega Drive were more popular than their Nintendo counterparts here too.

I bought this game brand new, factory sealed, in 2008 for $20.

I opened it so I could listen to the bonus CD I had always been curious about after renting the game throughout my childhood. It was amazing.
