Look out, under appreciated middle child coming through.
>hey samus why you no duck?
She duck

She shoot down
>hey gunpei game called metroid but barely metroid?
More metroid
>hey Nintendo r & d1 why no save?
Game save

It introduced the shouldered varia suit which changed to an iconic look. It set up the plot for super and fusion. To compensate for the limited capacity of the gameboy hardware it created new ways to explore. It introduced the spiderball, morph ball jump, space jump, spazer and plasma beams. Bored of the same old bosses? Tired of Zebes? Play it on a gbc today for the special enhanced color palette.

Semi-related, is a complete opened metroid 2 for 80 worth it? I've seen eBay list for as much as 45 more not including ship. It should be noted this is a local retro shop so no ship involved. Just don't want to get ripped off thinking I'm getting a deal based of impulse I guess.

It really saddens me that Nintendo didn't remake it. They could've released the DX version, at least. But hey, AM2R is making progress.

It saddens me that people don't like it the way it is

Ohh they do, but for many of us we've played it so many times. And seeing it in a whole new tile set, the way AM2R looks would be pretty awesome.

>> No.2506443

Yep, the game is really good and an evolution of the first game, not a cheap GB port.

>> No.2506472

Definitely one of the best GB games of all time.

>> No.2506567

I adore this game. The map can get a bit... silly at times, but the game sounds and plays so good. Love it.

>> No.2506638

Has anyone played on gbc to see what the special color palette they coded into the gbc for it looks like?

1.4.1 came out a couple weeks ago; tower boss was awesome. wonder if the next update will include his 'new area' or if that'll be scrapped and if the final version will have any hidden boss battles. it'd be really sweet, if a prime or super omega boss away hidden inside the game.

...it suffers from the same problem super mario deluxe does; everything is zoomed in TOO much.

>>2506638
No, but there's an updated color hack that works on hardware and does not crash when the queen appears(?).

Shit, did they really reprogram it to be a GBC rom? That's radical.

Yeah well I'd order online for just the cart if that's all I wanted. But I'd like to make it complete for my favorites like link's awakening and metroid 2. I assume you can probably order manuals or boxes from resellers but it doesnt have the same satisfaction of getting it all at once..

iirc Samus is disproportionately large because the gb was grayscale, and due to the small screen size if the sprite were smaller being able to differentiate suits would have been even more difficult. So Samus was made larger to show the detail on the new redesign of the varia suit.

Why didn't Samus take her ice beam or bombs but did take her morph ball and missiles?

The sprites were so large because the gameboy is only 160x144

>> No.2507580

>>2507554
Hey it's a damn sight better than when she got shitfaced before visiting Zebes and forgetting everything but her short beam. but it's fairly impressive considering she destroyed the entire pirate base in less than an hour hung over.
>>2507576
...They updated her Varia Suit, adding round metal shoulders that have been a part of the suit in every game in the series since then. Because of the Game Boy's small screen, the developers made Samus' model bigger compared to her surroundings, to give more detail in her appearance using limited graphics capabilities...

>> No.2508365

>>2507580
they did not simply make everything digger just because of her suit; they made everything bigger so that everything would look more detailed. and the varia suit changes were simply gone to show some level of visual difference on the b&w screen. and none of this matters, because it does not change the fact that gameboy's limited resolution of only 160x144 required them to zoom everything in to keep up that level of detail. as i said, the bameboy's resolution is the only reason. they didn't want to make another mario land out of metroid.

Sure thing buddy.

Really I do understand your point but no one expected much detail from this handheld and lo you get >>2507551. You seem to be stuck on the dimension and aspect ratio when you should see past that and observe the finished product. I'm saying that r&d1 devs knew the limits of the DMG-01 and compensate with my cited evidence as proof.

muh opinions > your facts.
Love you 4chin
