Let's have a tetris score thread! Stick to NES and Gameboy only please.

Here is my best Gameboy score.

So we can all reasonably compare scores across the same platform/variant.

Is there any reason to expect the NES and GB variant to be comparable?

NES is usually considered to be second to TGM by Tetris enthusiasts. I figure most of us have the NES or GB carts or roms.

>> No.2499645

>>2499638
most of us probably also have DOSBox, and it happens to be the very first Tetris game, or at least a direct port of it. Doesn't get more original than that.

Your scores reminded me of how shite I am.

>> No.2500123

sadly I've been ruined by modern iterations that let you fix the horizontal speed as a setting instead of having to mash quickly. nullpomino isn't /vr/ but it's my favorite. I'll post an nes score tomorrow if the thread's still up.

>> No.2500202

>>2499964
Hey if you're still here, do you stick to one particular strategy? Anon here that posted the two scores. I don't know if it makes more sense to always go for tetrises, or just knock out singles and doubles to keep shit in check for the whole round. I'll take my answer off the air.

>> No.2500224

Always go for Tetris. Avoid single or double clears and even triple clears if you can.

>> No.2500240

>>2500224
Makes sense. I always do in levels 0-10, but after that, I rarely speed up my drops, and try and keep shit from going crazy. Think I have to work on my speed game, because after level 10, I'm probably watching the Next box too much or something. Haven't been able to get much higher scores than the second one I posted.

For serious? That's hard to believe.

I take it no Tengen Tetris allowed either?

>> No.2500628

I've been practicing a lot of TGM lately, but the input lag inherent in emulation and LCDs and such isn't helping things much. I can usually get to about level 200+ though, barely.

>> No.2500630

>the input lag inherent in emulation and LCDs
Keep telling yourself that, if it makes you feel better

>> No.2500639

>>2499627
Because some ports are forgiving if not stupidly easy.

>> No.2500645

>>2500630
Ok, I will. It's enough that I can just barely feel the input delay, which means both learning the game and learning to play around slight input delay just makes it that little bit much harder. Though honestly I need to learn better strategy and stacking first.

I miss the sonic drops of TAP but I'm starting with TGM because it's "easier".

>It's enough that I can just barely feel the input delay
And of course you think it's the "emulation" and the display. Didn't think The Flash would be playing Tetris though. Nice to meet you.

>> No.2500651

>>2500645
Not him, but Tetris isn't really going to suffer too much from the input delay on an LCD, unless you're playing on some super fucked up LCD.
I say this as someone who plays TGM pretty regularly on my astro cab. Your moves should be calculated much more than the 5,10ms of lag you receive...

>> No.2500652

>>2500649
About 5 frames of delay is plenty enough to be able to feel it. Are you new to these kinds of games? Have you never seen fighting game players or shmup players bitching about inane numbers like 2 or 1 frame of lag?

>> No.2500653

>>2500651
Yeah you're right, it's less the LCD and more MAME, really.

And again, it's really not that bad.

>> No.2500654

>>2500652
about 5 frames of delay are not caused by emulation (especially mame emulation) or method of display.

I really only play Puyo Puyo Tetris or Tetris Ultimate these days on my Vita, Playing some Gameboy Tetris on my SNES right now though, it's a lot harder than modern Tetris games
Also what is the definitive port of Tetris? I'm currently saving up for Grand Masters but that'll take some time

After seeing this thread, I now want Tetris for NES as well

it's a decent puzzle game, obviously nowhere near the original Tetris's greatness, originality and influence. . it would have got a better reception and found a bigger audience if they would have just called it Tetris Flash and marketed it as something completely different than the original Tetris, instead of calling it Tetris 2 and marketing it like an official sequel.
