Anyone else think Conker is overrated? The scat jokes get old quick, and the game design is an absolute mess in a lot of areas.

B-b-but it was one of the few M-rated games on the system, so it gets a pass!

I actually like the writing and voice acting for the most part, but yeah the gameplay isn't that good. Graphcis were really good for its time though

I played the XBOX remake and didn't like it that much

>> No.2496016

Played it as a teenager, loved it back then.
Now it's just embarrassing, it relies WAY too much on immature humor and cliché pop-culture references. The actual gameplay is basic and boring, it's actually pretty shit.

It's like watching an episode of South Park with stupid mini-games or stale platforming segments in-between every scene.

>> No.2496048

I really like the game design for the most part but I agree on the humour - actually, the movie parodies were hilarious and well done but Rare's original stuff falls flat. Reliance on the same old jokes and edgy bullshit. I find the game far more interesting as a case study than an actual game to be honest.

My god, the baits are gettng out of control. Primary school must be on break in north america.
Conkers, alongside mischief makers are the only really good games on nintendo shixty four.

Toilet humor is cringeworthy at best, movie references were okay for their time, but do not do well in this curent day and age.

But conker isnt about all that. What makes conker great is its gameplay and variance.

Conker is singlehandedly more fun then the repetitive collecta-fest that banjo kazzoie is because they mix it up.

if they remade it (They being microsoft) it would be chock full of memes instead of the pop culture refs.

heh I find kazooie more replayable than conker.

Conker is about the only game that makes toilet humour at least partially funny.

The jazz tune made out of farts was incredible and Sloprano was jaw dropping.

Honestly the gameplay is what I liked least. There were a lot of poorly engineered areas in the game (the fans of death, the last map of It's War, etc), and the game did a really bad job of communicating control changes. I think it also could have been better about communicating objectives. Most of the puzzles didn't make me think either, and solutions were often things I found randomly.

It's an alright game.
Absolutely no replay value though.

Aside from the multiplayer, I logged hundreds of hours in both the original and online on the remake.

Nope, never could love winning or losing because of a stupid item punishes me for playing well.
I like games that need practice and skill to play, not saying I master every game I touch, I would prefer to lose instead of getting a first place ticket if I'm doing bad in a racing game.

Conker was alright but it fell way too far on it's face as it reached the end. Its difficulty curve was nice and the game doesn't exactly overstay its welcome, but it was definitely missing its mark more as the game went on.

Consider for example, the spooky mansion part of the game: Conker ends up in a parody of George Romero movies, but the reference is firmly grounded in what was already going to be a spooky mansion part. The reference was just the cherry on top of the sundae and the sundae was alright.

The same happens with the WAR part, where there's a Saving Private Ryan joke with Omaha Beach and all that. But the rest of the WAR part is mostly original anyway and actually kind of funny and endearing.

Now consider the last things that happen in the game: There's a Matrix reference that just happens, a Aliens reference that just happens, and then the game's over with barely any sort of context or closure.

Conker is a Hindenburg or a Titanic. Big ambitions but that didn't stop it from ending tragically.

(Shit, I could go ON about Conker. It's the first N64 game I ever finished as an adult and I looked at it the most critically I possibly could.)

I liked the humor, but the gameplay felt like a gimped Banjo-Kazooie.

I don't know how to describe it, but something about the platfoming/jumping physics just felt off. Very shovelware-platformer-esque.

>(Shit, I could go ON about Conker. It's the first N64 game I ever finished as an adult and I looked at it the most critically I possibly could.)

Please do.

I love the game, but I also felt very unsatisfied by it's ending. It was really fun but then it just sort of ends and it feels like there's all this build up to nothing. There wasn't even a fight with the Panther King. I think they may have been playing with our expectations a bit purposely, though.
