Fucking love hexen. can't stop mapping for it.

What did you think of Hexen II?

I've actually never played it. Are the levels structured like Hexen or did they change it?

>tfw Hexen for the Saturn was the only game that literally made me shit myself as a youngster.
Good and bad memories with this game.

I've always preferred Heretic, but still, a solid game.

Nigga, the only major flaw it has would be the axe room glitch but outside of that the game is pretty great. Or what, you're not a fighter scrub, right?

same as Hexen, hub layout of maps. just with the quake engine and and the glory that brings to a 2D sector game.

Hexen II is just as hard and full of puzzles, but adds a few new classes and re does all the wepons. good game, nice variety in enemies and weapons, more variety than hexen.

Still love the original hexen though.

Currently working on my second hub (first hub was 10 levels)

Have been including lots of custom ambient sounds. Why did they never think of wolves howling, startled pigeons, crunching foliage, crows and ravens?

For some reason Hexen II is my favorite, and I think it has something to do with the Quake engine and how magical it was for me as a kid.

Fighter is best, so: no u. Enjoy going slow and not doing great damage with bear hands.

Enjoy getting slowed down by Centaurs meanwhile i poison cloud them and suck their health with my Serpent Staff

Hexen 2 brought back the Tome of Power, which was a great idea. But it made all the weapons' default fire modes boring as shit, which was not a great idea. Overall Hexen 2's weapons are much less satisfying than Hexen's, and its classes feel less distinct because of it. The halfassed level up perks do nothing to help.

The various puzzles can be cryptic as fuck, so be prepared to do some serious sleuthing. Also those angel enemies are absolutely broken tier game design.

Still a fun game though. I fully recommend it. I find it a little less charming because it's not on the Doom engine but that's just me.

No joke this might have been the first real videogame I played when I was a kid. All I remember is sitting on my dad's lap cause I couldn't reach the keyboard. I also remember throwing up after the fist time I played it hahahaha I can't remember if it was motion sickness or I was scared. Sometimes I question certain parenting choices...

you're modifying the game files to add these? or simply compiled additional whitenoise matching the game to play on the background?

regardlesss... can u dump all of it for us?

First hub doesn't have 10 levels. There's Guardian of Ice, Fire and Steel + secret level. Most of the portals just take you to different areas from same levels you've visited already.

Enjoy your weakest weapons and character with zero feel to them while I beat the game with bear fists because rip and tear and all that stuff.

I'm basically importing small mp3 files into the WAD and then telling the maps to play them as ambient files. works great! Really easy to do in SLADE 3.

Here's the hub I'm working on (major WIP, but the sounds are there)

http://www.mediafire.com/download/l2anocfai0q0364/Scerebi_Forest.wad

You'll hear wolves and crows and some new wind tracks, as well as the standard hexen ambient sounds.
Once you solve the 5 pool puzzle, you've pretty much completed what I've made

>>2497632
Ah, I was talking about the first hub I made, not the first hub in Hexen.
This is my hub here:

oh btw these all run on zdoom. Seems to be the most stable way to play Hexen these days. just get a copy of the HEXEN.wad and you're good to go

I remember really liking the first level of the game

but then level design takes a steep dive downhill, I gave up on the swamps when some glitch caused some platform to not appear and reloading didn't help.

I remember playing Hexen with my brother and cousin on the N64. We had a blast and it took usaquifers some time to complete. Couple years ago we tried playing through it again on the 64 and it was unbearable. To this day I have no idea how we finished the game through co op on a much smaller tv back in the day.

>a lot of stuff to do early game ; sadly most of it is useless because you only need to do a few tasks to proceed
>useless points system asides from an occasional giggle
>a buttload of junk you'll never use lying everywhere
>most puzzles are either cryptic shit or farm fests
>awful mid game
>fucking Isle of Cats TWICE
>the endings are barely any different from each other
Would still trade a kidney for a sequel or even a remake.
