ITT /vr/ card games

Pokemon, Card Fighter Clash and Yu-Gi-Oh! Dark Duel Stories were my go to games. I remember hating that in Yu Gi Oh all cards always were face down and the computer could see everything.

There was a MtG game with all the old broken cards

You can easily built a first-turn-kill deck if you abuse the Power Nine cards.

There's a sequel that got a fan translation a while back. It's the same game but with more cards and a different storyline.

I really like Monster Maker for the PC98. It's really simple and easy to get screwed by randomness, but it's still a lot of fun for some reason.
Based on an actual card game, to boot. Minimal Japanese ability needed, probably enough that most people who are already PC-98 fans in the first place shouldn't have too many problems getting by.

That was a nasty little period in the in the late 90s & early 2000s where every RPG felt like it had to include a card game. FF9 and Xenosaga immediately come to mind.

That save system was a real son of a whore though. I remember picking the game up at some point years after having beaten it and forgot about the whole "You have to save before quitting" save system and nuked my save data. I understand the purpose but it's bullshit.

You can also tap your opponent's mana and cause them mana burn and squelch their ability to play any cards with a cost of more than 1.

SNK vs Capcom Neo Geo Pocket Color one was fucking good.

Is it retro? Neo Geo Pocket was released on 1999, but the game is Pocket Color only.

the fact that you have to ask shows how dumb this board is with what is and isn't retro

Which card game's it based on? And yeah, I'd probably give it a try sometime.

Monster Maker.
There's also a PnP RPG and a couple of RPG video games based on the world for GameBoy, SFC, and maybe some other systems I don't exactly remember.

There's so many neat little japanese card games on the game boy and shit. I wish some bored romhackers would dabble in game boy rather than nes.

I had a friend who loved this game, but I never got into it
