Raiden's name was only rendered as "Rayden" in the early home ports because Acclaim felt the need to change it for some reason.
It's always been Raiden in the Arcade versions.

Granted, pit fighter was a huge success in the arcades (at least in my country) with its digital pictures used as sprites. But mk took that to a whole new level. Never forget the line in front of the arcades.
