Always nice to see a Guardian Legend thread!
>>2471174
>How do I git gud at Guardian Legend?
Keep playing, explore every screen. Theres a few things that you practically won't be able to kill right in that first zone, don't let that make you feel like you're doing bad; that game seems to get less and less difficult as you get stronger, it's the damn corridors that eat you up.
>How do I git gud at the flying parts without entering TGL as a pre-game password?
In the process of exploring every screen you'll find the corridors. The single digit corridors are the ones that get you keys to access new zones. If you want to be "good" when you get to those try doing them last; seek out the double digit corridors and use them to figure out the best ways for you to kill, evade and ultimately make it to the boss in good shape. Getting good takes practice I guess or whatever.
>How do I git gud at advancing faster and being stronger?
Use a walkthrough, use map strategically, play more aggressively...a walkthrough will cut down on looking for powerups and tell you where they are, that'll cut down on exploration time.
Don't hesitate to try cheat codes; it can be fun to speed through some of the game, beefing up fast and then playing without the codes once you have the gun that fires 3 shots wide, like I said before those later levels with that gun are actually easier than that first zone with the initial gun.
>>2471271
>what's the strongest weapon? I like to use the sword
That sword weapon is my weapon of choice too; I like to get in close, stay on the boss and get out when I need to heal, rinse, repeat.
That slow fireball weapon is good throughout the whole game at any power level once you figure out how to aim and time it to hit something as much as possible with it. That was the first special weapon I ever over-used.
That double beam that acts like the sword weapon on each side of you can be fun and handy.

Find Red Landers. The red ones increase max chips and the blue ones increase max HP.

The Zanac games. Quite a few enemies are even exactly the same, atleast has (almost if not identical) the same sprites and movements.
It's for various systems.

Sadly none of the other ones has such great RPG/Adventure elements like TGL.. Mostly just shooter part.

This! This times 1,000.
Gun-nac, gunhed, aleste, guardic, powerstrike and others...all tied in but no platform play, just flying and shooting :^(
Randar (TGL's Blue Lander) was in all of Compile's games and then even had 'his' own adventures which I believe were RPGs...as Anon said above, theres a bunch of familiar (to TGL) enemies in their flying/shooting games but their RPGs share Very few enemies.

I'm just suprised that the box art is the only thing that changed I guess. When I think of another country's 'Version' of something I assume there's more differences than the cover art...like Contra .vs. Probotector.

Here is jap cover of the game.
>>2471174
Go to the save room, equip "no use" and press secondary fire inside this room.

>How do I git gud at Guardian Legend
Here's some tips:
On ground and in flight missions if you unequip secondary weapon/put in on "no use" - primary machine gun will shoot more bullets on screen.
Every secondary weapon can be upgraded three times. Third upgrade will sometimes capable of destroying projectiles.
Later in the game you will unlock flash bomb weapon with limited amount of uses (that can be sometimes replenished). It's able to destroy small enemies and projectiles but if you'll continue to spam flash bomb on exploding objects it counts as kill. Basically after a while there will appear shit ton of containers for you to pick up in case of emergency.
Sometimes in overworld you can find very difficult bosses that run faster than you. Consider to use double wave/sound weapon while running away.

>what's the strongest weapon?
Slow vibrating orb.

For those who finished original game i recommend pretty neat and dificult romhack called "TGL secret".

To patch a rom you can use nestopia emulator or patcher tool "lunar ips".
http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/240/

Basically it's Guardian legend: second quest. Requirements for corridor doors has been changed, levels layout was changed, bosses was tweaked and theirs order also has been changed, shop items, position of a weapons in overworld not the same, flight missions difficulty and enemies layout. And game become balls to the wall hard.
