The Game Gear was a very underrated handheld. Know any good games to play for it? What's your favorite Game Gear game? Share your memories.

Game gear was sort of mythical around where I grew up, I didn't know anyone who actually owned one. The only time I saw one in person was a store display.

Where can I find info on the capacitor issues and how to fix it? I'd search but I'm at work right now (ok, I'm just lazy, and maybe anon can point me to the definitive site for information on it.) I've got about 3 GG units that are seemingly dead.

I had this too, fucking weird game. Missed the bus once by stalling playing Slider and lost GG privileges for a month once.

Check out Shinobi 2 ans Tails' Adventure.

Caps are supposedly easy enough to replace. I never tried. You can find kits on eBay if you're not willing to make a lit of parts you need.

Fun fact: the GameGear has (far) better battery life that the first iteration of the Nintendo 3DS.

Try and get yourself a Majesco GameGear, they have better screens and battery life and no capacitor problems.

>> No.2467524

Eh, personally I think the GG was extremely overrated. Really shitty games, the system was only mainstream because of the Sega name.

If I read the web page >>2467492 correctly, it cost him $200 for supplies alone. Seems like a bit much, but even if it were even a quarter of that I'd imagine he'd have to charge $3-400 just to make it worth his time.

Is it orgional hardware though?

I've only played the Shinobi games, which are great.

That game isn't half bad. Too bad it wasn't localized, but good thing it had no region lock.

Tails' Adventures was localized, you're thinking of Tails' Sky Patrol.

I absolutely loved Game Gear. It actually just broke like 3 months ago (moment of silence please).

Ristar was not only my favorite game on Game Gear, but one of my favorite platformers of all time.

My favorite memory, was the 30 minute battery life and I bought a plug in battery pack. I remember always searching for an outlet where I went. Good times.
