What's a retro game that's impossible to do a no-hit run on?

>> No.2461808

>>2461794
Smash T.V. is generally regarded as beyond human capability to do a no-hit run on without cheating/save stating/etc.

>> No.2461812

By that same token RoboTron 2084 and a lot of other arcade games are probably the same way.

You have to take it REAL slow. The thing is you have to take it so slow it isn't fun.

>>2461812
It is pretty much designed with the player dying in mind so I can't say it is fair.

>> No.2462038

Just hits, or does taking no damage whatsoever count?
Tomb Raider 2 has The Deck, where you have to take a big drop to a raft which always damages you, and outright kills you if you're at less than 90% health.

Seems like The Adventures of Link or Ninja Gaiden would be impossible for no-hit runs.

There are certain enemies in TAoL with attacks that have no tells and which come in multiple directions at once and they require way too many hits and the narrow corridors mean you HAVE to kill them to advance.

I would also consider Castlevania to be impossible to do a no-hit run because of Medusa Heads, hunchbacks, and that fucking "fate worse than death" hallway

The first half of stage 6 I would agree, the hallway is easy. Get the cross, get the triple, grind some hearts and you can just walk through without trouble.

Oh, I'm sure it's possible, just not something I want to spend my time on. It's really not that hard to dodge the Medusas until the second loop of the game.

>>2462083
Castlevania is possible if you memorize the entire game.

>> No.2462105

Can't memorize hunchbacks though. Those things have no tells and move in unpredictable jumping patterns.

Does Robotron actually have an ending aside from getting a game over? Smash TV despite being hard as balls at least has a final boss and ending. Hell its even got a secret ending.

This doesn't meet the level of "impossible", but...

Most Kirby games. No joke, it is *surprisingly* difficult. I've put effort in trying and failed. With Mario games I can go for long streaks of the game without getting hit, no practice required.

It's funny, since Kirby is designed to be on the easy side. But it achieves that design by being generous with recovery items. I don't think they paid much attention to how being able to tank at least a few hits is required for virtually every player.

No. There's 40 levels. Once you get past 40 it jumps to 20 and then you go back to 40. It keeps up until you die.

Sure as shit felt like that when I started playing. The level 9 style levels seem to be a big sticking point for me. Just a ton of monsters on the screen all walking towards you at once. You simply don't have enough firepower to take them on, so you blast a hole and kinda inch your way around.

Robotron is the one arcade I actually own.

Castelvania III on the other hand...

They aren't that unpredictable - you can pretty much always kill them as soon as you see them. The only time they're a real threat is in the last level, and you can just use the watch to skip them there anyway.

Because it makes no difference that you get hurt in those encounters as there are no consequences for doing so.
By your example, there's no such thing as no-hit Super Metroid run, or a no-KO run of FF4. Or even a no-damage Duke3D or Quake run.

The spirit of a no-hit run is to avoid all possible hits, discounting the hits that are impossible to avoid.

>> No.2466689

>>2464624
>discounting the hits that are impossible to avoid.
I would say, "discounting the hits that are required to progress for story reasons"

I'm interested to hear what games are actually impossible to not get hit on, even tool-assisted.

Guardian Legend

It's literally imposssible even on TAS run.

That said the hits you are forced to take do very little damage and enemies drop health like crazy.

The health-mechanics in it are very unusual for a shmup.

>> No.2466946

>>2462083
Castlevania wouldn't be that hard if you are willing to abuse holy water. Medusa are super predictable and not very threatening to a good good player.

The original Ninja Gaiden has a boss with undodgable attacks, your health gets refilled when you fight him and it's a race to see who can kill the other guy first.
