Why do Dreamcucks love this piece of shit even though it only lived for 2 years and the controller was terrible?

nice thread, I feel really comfortable sharing my opinions in here

Much better than the N64 controller, at least.

And just guessing, maybe they liked the games?

I know this is a shitpost, but you're right, that controller is a fucking monstrosity. What were they on when they designed that?

>> No.2460682

I like the controller and think it's one of the best. It's a great controller, it fits my hand perfectly, unlike most controllers that are a small bit too small for me. The buttons are little bit small and spaced far apart, other than that it's great.

>> No.2460685

Maybe the all-hits library? Maybe the practically arcade-identical architecture straight outta the AM2 era? Maybe because it only costs $20 and plays burned games with no modification? Maybe its 480p native output?

Jesus fucking Christ

The controller was great. Idk wtf you are on about.

>the games
>the fact I could get any game I wanted for the cost of a blank disc
>the homebrew scene

What's NOT to love about it?

>> No.2460828

The controller really wasn't all that great especially coming after the Saturn which had the best controller ever made but the great game library more than made up it

>> No.2460840

Controller was great, it has a lot of good games.

Not op but
>Buttons feel rough and non-glossy/waxy
>Terrible mushy and inaccurate d-pad
>Uncomfortable analog stick that pales in comparison to its Saturn predecessor
Sorry toots, but you're either crazy or inexperienced to find that controller great.

>> No.2460915

+1 on not really liking the controller.

As for your question, OP -- the games. For a console that only lasted two years it has a whole lot of must-play games, especially when you include arcade ports.

>> No.2460919

>>2460915
Meant to elaborate on the controller some. Uncomfortable d-pad, stick is too light, triggers have no resistance. I loved VMUs though, and having two vmu slots was a really interesting decision. I'm glad the Wii U is keeping the screen-in-controller thing going even if it's not really used that effectively (admittedly, I don't own one).

>> No.2460924

Dreamcast really is quite overrated. The controller is very uncomfortable and the library is very limited. People say the library is great, but I really don't see it.

>> No.2460925

>>2460678
I always thought the Dreamcast controller was really comfortable, but then again I never had a Saturn to compare it to. I went straight from the tiny little Genesis 6-button to the DC.

>> No.2460931

>>2460925
Saturn is basically 6 button genesis controller

Dreamcast has probably the best good games to bad games ratio of any console.

>people actually defending the pad ITT
It had a slippery analog stick, a stiff d-pad, not enough buttons, and needed another analog stick.

Basically the Xbox-S is DC controller done right.

Just shut the fuck up. If people like it, they like it. No matter whether it's "actually" a minority opinion or not. It's definitely not a bad controller. The d-pad quite good, better than the small and awkward d-pad you get on lots of other newer consoles.

it looks cool

but it's actually awful
>button spacing too great
>analog stick positioned too high up (the d-pad is in a far nicer place, and that's low as fuck), also the "grip" texture sucks
>d-pad is nearly as bad as the Xbox 360 one
like, I'm holding one right now, and it's awful
I need to get a pair of those DualShock->DC converter boxes at some point.

>system
It had a fuckton of good exclusive games, and the best versions of multiplats at the time (even if they were often just the N64 version but at 60fps/or a rock solid 30). During its lifespan, even games released on both it and PS2 looked better on DC (if only because the PS2's architecture is actually weird as fuck).

>>2460998
>Oh no! Not something different!
you should feel bad for this post

it really doesn't help that the DC controller is pretty much the Saturn 3D pad but worse in every way except for looking cooler
the 3D pad has
>nicer stick (maybe too big and the thumb indent too deep)
>better positioned, larger, and more buttons
>the fantastic Saturn d-pad is still there and still fantastic

hell, the 3D pad even has an expansion port where the DC controller's VMU slots are
DC controller is just like its immediate predecessor, but worse.

It lacked the C and Z buttons from the Saturn's analog controller. Not sure what was Sega's logic behind that. Shouldn't more buttons mean more options?
