I just stumbled across this shit on youtube and decided to give it a watch even though it has typical jewtube eceleb cancer written all over it.

Thoughts? It's nice that they tried to understand, there is a progression. They all complained it was hard, the nignog couple shat all over it because they sucked too bad.

For me, yes older games are archaic in some ways, but there is a simple, pure joy to mastering them over time. They're simple to learn, hard as fuck to master, but the process mastering them is great.

Some of them didn't understand and dismissed the game, but some of them said it was addicting, the feeling of getting better each playthrough was great, the challenge and defeat made them want to do better.

What are your thoughts /vr/? Can the current generation understand and enjoy /vr/? How much so?

also this is /vr/ because it's discussion of the current generation's ability to enjoy retro games

This video is an unbiased show of what newbies think of retro games, so it's interesting. Funfact, if you think posting a video is shilling, you belong in /v/. Like this video would even get a noticeable increase in traffic, please. And I'm not a hipster, I love retro games and I have for a long time.

With an instruction manual and a weekend (average rent time) in a cabin with nothing but this game, I'm convinced most of these teams would have gotten at least to Snow Field, the ones who felt "we were making progress" would probably have gotten to the Alien Lair or maybe even beaten it.

Not all /vr/ games are arcade-styled like Contra though, a lot of people like /vr/ games closer to modern gaming like jRPGs, a lot of those still are very popular among modern players (Chrono Trigger, FF6 etc). It's the arcade-style gaming that is harder to get into for modern players (short games focused on challenge and improving your skills rather than long games about exploring/discovering secrets)

Seriously? It's not even the hardest game in it's own genre. There are numerous arcade platformers like Shadow Dancer, Strider, Ghosts n Goblins, or Metal Slug that are HARDER than any contra.

And for fuck sakes, NES contra is the easiest game in the entire fucking series!

And platformers are not even the hardest single-player game, that award goes to shmups.

You clearly didn't play the arcade version, it's a much shorter game with less content than the NES versión, controls are somehow worse too.
