No, not necessarily, but I tend to think a lot of older systems look better on CRTs. I guess that's up to you, though.

>Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo

>Street Fighter Alpha 3

Not worth it on PS, better on Saturn or just MAME.

Also OP yes, use a CRT, this is an SD console.

If you plan to mod it, avoid the early 100x models.

>> No.2451093

Get a CRT, it gives you access to Time Crisis and Point Blank.

If you're looking forward to PS-IO get any model pre 900X, so 750X or below as these still have the parallel port.

If you just want to modchip it go for the 900X model as this doesn't have a heatshield inside that needs to be de-soldered making installation a lot easier.

Also games...:
Loaded
Duke Nukem: Time to Kill
Kula World
Overboard
Intelligent Qube (Kurushi)
G Police
Future Cop LAPD
Point Blank 1, 2, 3
Time Crisis
Croc: Legend of the Gobos

The Playstation does Puzzle Fighter just fine. You may be thinking of Pocket Fighter.

If you plan to do anything, avoid the early 100x models. There's a component in it (which I frankly don't remember for the life of me at the moment) made of plastic in early models which was later switched to metal because the plastic would wear out and result in a wobbly laser. It's replaceable, but it will inevitably happen again.
