I love TwinBee, I'd say it's the game that introduced me into shmups (other than Galaxian), and lately I've been playing the 3D classic version a lot, I just wish it had 2 players mode.

Totally agree, I think it's the best version of the game, and that's also why Konami and Nintendo decided to release the Famicom version on the 3DS (unlike Xevious, where they ported the original arcade and not the FC version, which wasn't as good).

Alright alright, time for Fantasy Zone. I haven't gotten around to IIDX yet, but the original's a great game that y'all should play. No issues on MAME, there's a great 3D re-releases by M2 that came out a few months ago, &c.

It's also unique in that it takes Defender's player-centered scrolling, adds in a shop for customizing your play-style with active/passive items, and focuses on destroying enemy bases (which spawn reinforcements) at your own pace. The game was made in part to compete with Gradius asymmetrically, so the power-up system feels different but not too separate in concept from what other STGs were doing (plus the premise of collecting money to spend at balloons brings the Japanese bubble economy to mind).

>>2449743
Cool game, but the fast scrolling kills you more than anything else, it gets really annoying. They should have made the distance you can reach before the screen starts scrolling a lot shorter.

>> No.2449767

>>2449752
It's annoying at first, and some enemies are definitely built to punish hasty scrollers (the rotating dudes and the Mockstar chasers), but I don't think it's poor design. The trick is to advance just enough that you have just one base on-screen, which means less traffic to worry about, and then you can return to center and see enemies coming but not get hit in the process.

No the reason why Konami went with the Famicom version is because Konami wanted to shove the arcade version of Twinbee into New Love Plus.

http://www.technologytell.com/gaming/78108/japan-import-new-love-plus-characters-are-gamers-3ds/

Character designs were changed to match that of Detana and later by M2.

I've been playing Cotton 2 on MAME and having a lot of fun. I love the catching and throwing mechanic and how you can make combos with it.

Runs fine here, I only get lag during the story segments when the game is supposed to switch to high res 480i mode. In game I get over 200%. Turning on auto frameskip fixed it.

Most would tell you Boomerang is the better game. Personally, I'm torn between them. Cotton 2 has more thoughtful level design and puts up a greater challenge, but Boomerang has better controls/mechanics and does away with the more annoying elements of 2. Both are must plays, though.
