Let's have a a thread about the golden age of Mario Party aka 1,2 and 3.

Favorite board?

Favorite game?

Favorite board music?

>> No.2444297

Halloween Land, Day at the Races (I know you just picked a random racer and watched but it was fun as fuck with 3 other people all cheering and seeing someone coming from behind to win), Rainbow Castle was GOAT Mario Party music so fucking chill.

Still a fun game that I occasionally play with friends. The first game is my favorite.

>>2444297
Fun fact for ya, the Rainbow Castle theme is actually a very slowed down remix of the invincible theme from SMB 1. I didn't realize until recently but there's actually a lot of hidden remixes in the first Mario Party.

Mario Party 2 is my favorite, that splash screen at the beginning with the music gets me every time.

That being said, Mario Party 3 is the one I play the most with my friends. We have played the hell out of these games, and 3 gives the most viable options for strategies, since it allows people to have 3 items, and has more interesting items. More interesting situations come about in mario party 3.

Favorite stage is probably Deep Blooper Sea...dat music.

I fucking love shy guy's game corner....I love gambling in games.

game: Mushroom Mix-Up, Mario Puzzle Party, or Tanks A Lot
music: Deep Blooper Sea

Favorite game is probably 2 overall, though I prefer how much MP1 is just a marathon of fuck-you.

Reminds me of how sad the newest game was to play. Just a total downgrade from everything before it. Had amazing animations though. I wish Hudson was still doing MP instead of whatever team they force to do it nowadays.

My friends and I enjoyed Mario Party 1 the most, because it pulled no punches. You either won big, or got shat on in terms of coins when you played with people with roughly the same skill level. All the boards in that game were fantastic.

This game is great when it starts going so fast nobody has time to get to the mushrooms, and you just start jumping and stalling in the air by doing groundpounds. Mushrooms come back up before you hit the water and the first person who fucks up timing or falls behind ends up losing.

I don't know if it's the best mini game but it's a damn good one.

>> No.2460386

I don't know why but I have a hard time getting people to play this goddamn game. I basically have to twist people's arms to play, but then we they play they love it. Then when trying to play again, same exact shit.

I love this game so much, I just want people that actually want to play it.

Mario Party is the game to play a drinking game with. You can even make all characters computer controlled and everyone just bets on one character. There are unlimited possibilities.

>> No.2460908

>>2448985
>Favorite game is probably 2 overall, though I prefer how much MP1 is just a marathon of fuck-you.

In some ways, Mario Party 1 is more fair. In most mini games in the first one, everyone has an opportunity to get coins, but in the second one, usually only the winner gets coins (even in mini games that were in both games and behaved differently in the first one)

>> No.2460916

>>2449891
>Mario Party 4 was good as well, imo

4 is fucking god awful. I can't stress this enough.

The main reason for that is the boards. Not only are they hideous, they are terrible in design (there's one board where you can actually trap yourself in one corner!). Every board in the first has a great aesthetic and an interesting gimmick, but every bored in the 4th is bland as fuck.

As well, there's WAY too much reliance on getting Genie lamps instead of actually walking to the star. By the end of every game, it's so easy to buy lamps that it's ridiculous. They shouldn't even be in the game. It's annoying watching the animation for the lamps over and over again, too.

I don't have fun at all in Mario Party 4. The best one, to me, will always be the first one. They did everything right in that game (and the music is extremely underrated)

>> No.2460927

>>2460916
>there's one board where you can actually trap yourself in one corner!
Seriously? It's hard to imagine an oversight like that in a 1st/2nd-party Nintendo game. As a graph theory enthusiast it's particularly depressing. Surely you can break out of it with a special square or item or something, no?

>> No.2460938

>>2460916
>As well, there's WAY too much reliance on getting Genie lamps instead of actually walking to the star.
To be fair, I think this is generally a problem with the series as a whole. Getting the genie lamps makes it too damn easy to get stars in almost all of the games, making 40 coins + 1 turn = 1 Star, and that's just too easy. I have far more fun when I play with friends and we just ban the genie lamps all together (it also makes the 'bad' genie much more useful and that much more hilarious).

>shots
nathanks

The way me and my friends do:

1) Everyone who is playing has a 40 oz. That must be finished by the end of the game. Else, you pay for food (usually taco bell or some shit fastfood place open late) at the end o the game
2) if you roll a 10, chug
3) if you use an item, chug
4) if you lose a minigame, chug. If you win, you can choose to chug as well.
5) if you get the same numbers on a double dice, you make a rule everyone has to follow until someone else does that. If you get the same numbers on a triple dice, the rule is permanent

That usually works well for us. Im sure there are rules for stars / red spaces / Bowser or whatever.

Really loved 1 and 2, but never really played 3. I remember liking 4 probably because I was in the GC hype. 5 was awesome until I replayed it a few months ago and noticed it's fucking boring and doesn't introduce any really interesting elements. It's just pretty. 6 was pretty great, 7 and 8 were huge piles of shit. I guess when I get to play old games with some friend again I'll go for either 1 or 2.
