So I have a huge problem, and hoping you fine folks on /vr/ can assist me.

I started playing SO2 recently and so far i've been loving it, love the game, story, atmosphere, everything.

Well I got DIAS recently, and decided to start using him, BOWMAN, ASHTON and RENA as my main party. Everything was going swell until we got to the field of wisdom.

I started to notice some kind of lag on my combos, to the point that its not game lag, but character input lag, Example: DIAS will perform a normal combo, one slice, two slice, but then get stuck in his third animation frame for three seconds before I can move him again.

I thought it was just DIAS, then I noticed all my other party members started doing it too, and it got worse and worse each dungeon.

I'm now in the field of might trying to fight the guardian, but the lag has gotten so bad, that I can't even attack the boss without him two-hit KOing me because I can't move while i'm stun locked.

I've tried this all morning and theres just no way I can physically do it, the boss is free to roam around and attack my party as he pleases, and I can't do shit but get wailed on for all my health, and once the healer is dead, the rest follow.

Is there anything that can be done? I'm playing on the original disk, and I've looked up help but found nothing on the topic.

I really want to continue this game, but even at level 80 average I can't do enough damage between stun locking to even matter.

can you possibly just stop using normal attacks entirely

Just curious, but do you think your attacks are being blocked / parried, due to having low accuracy? That can hold you in place for a bit, and is super annoying.

My techs are locked on dias, it says "Specials have been grabbed"

>>2434970

No, My evasion skill is at 10 max, same a defense and guard break.

I was finally able to backtrack out of that accursed mountain and I'm gonna grind in the other fields, I'm having a way easier time in courage even though its supposed to come later.

If this is the problem you may be able to solve it by learning combat skills like Feint.

But I dunno if that's what you're actually describing OP. Three full seconds of lag, really? That sounds rather extreme.

Like, Look at pic related.

See how Claude has his sword stuck in the air like that? He'll be stuck like that for three whole seconds, and unable to move, so enemies can walk around surround, and just beat him to a pulp.

Have you been playing this entire time on save state?

No, its the original disc, not emulation

Well, can't say I've ever had that happen to me.

Are you playing it on a PS2? The only thing that really comes to mind is some sort of loading error.

Even when the monster is in hitstun like that? (Is that your screenshot?) That was clearly a successful hit so something is definately drastically wrong.

Star Ocean: The Second Story is my favorite game of all time. I've beaten it more times than I could keep track of, and I've never had anything like this happen to me. Not saying you're lying obviously, but this is very interesting.

My discs, which are the same ones I bought back in '99 and thus horribly disfigured, have an issue that started a few years ago where the sounds get switched around, like Claude will use Ripper Blast and it'll randomly say someone else's line. Are your discs extremely worn as well?

You've doomed this thread now, too!
I'll bump it for you but I have little to contribute to the conversation.

So nobody else has posted a similar experience, and it sounds pretty weird. Now is the time to experiment and learn something for all of us

Disc read errors or Playstation hardware error seems like the first things to test. Try your disc and memory card on a PS2 and see what happens

what? must be a slim issue, old one you could leave on carpet all day and it didn't matter.

I dunno, my old PS1 got pretty hot, sometimes. I can't recall it ever interfering with a game, though.
