Beat this gem recently. Haven't beat the others in the series yet. Let's have a Warioland thread. Which game is your favorite?

Warioland 4, haven't played the others. The general theme and gameplay though are just generally fantastic; amazing atmosphere/world.

I actually enjoyed it so much I remade the game engine, and made this neverending road to run down while listening to lower quality version of this

I played a tiny bit of 4. It seemed really good. I actually beat Warioland II twice now. You can't die but the game is solid. I highly recommend it. Also I actually like Wario better than Mario as a character.

warioland 2 is easily one of my favorite platformers. The multiple paths sometimes were obvious but also waaaaay subtle. The level designs were tons of fun, some of them grueling with the timing. Loved it, I should dig it out and play it again.

Virtualboy Warioland. It has the best gameplay of the entire series and can easily be emulated (since who can afford a VB?)
The only real problem I have with it is how fucking short it is.

Warioland 2 is a close second though, and it doesn't have the "too short" problem.

seconding this gem, although if you've beaten only WL II, you might want to beat the first one, it's still an amazing game.

I hate how you couldn't revisit stages you've already beaten looking for things you've missed, Warioland 3 handled this better in my opinion.
But yeah, it's pretty fun as far as collecathons go.

Yeah you could. You just have to beat the game first.
That said SML3 and Wario 2 are the best.
Wario 3 is Wario 2, just with more BS thrown in. And Wario 4 is nothing like the others.

I only beat 3 and 4, never played 2. It's a toss up for me, 3 is great the first time through but I guess 4 is more replayable. Once you have learned all the puzzles in 3 it takes some of the fun away.

Been playing the 4th one along with a reading of this. Growing up with games, a lot of the mechanical know-how is ingrained into my subconscious, but it's good to review it all from another perspective, in technical terms.

The game itself is quite good to boot.

I don't get why people get so knotted up over games where you can't die. You still get punished by losing coins, which the entire game revolves around, and most of the challenge lies in solving the stage "puzzles" and finding hidden areas.

such a stupid question. it's plenty of gameplay mechanics resulting from his invincibility.

I used to love the first one when I was a kid, I remember getting all the treasures and the best ending back then.

Warioland 4 is alright, although I still have to finish it. The game has some nice music.

It's more about clever level design and getting past obstacles. Not being able to die just means you don't have to start all the way from the beginning of the level each time you fuck up. You still lose coins though, which help you get the puzzle pieces and treasures.

>> No.2436026

I like how WL1 has a kind of gritty, yet funny aesthetical undertone to it. every enemy is a no-good douche but so is Wario.
the musical direction is excellent in the whole series and really fun.

the overworld themes are very intruiging like the music for SS Tea Cup in WL1 for example feels kind of eerie, complimenting the bay and the waters around it.

Starting Warioland 3 after I finish collecting all the treasure for Warioland 2. I played the first level of 3 just to get a feel of the game. This.
Wario Land 1 was more focused on paltforming and really felt like an enhanced Super Mario Land 2 ( which is my favourite Mario game of all time ).
Finding all the treasures and trying to get the best ending was so much fun.

I was excited when then II got released, but it really felt weird. The game was slower paced and felt more like an endless series of puzzles than an action game.
I kinda dropped the series when I saw that III was following the same way, and never got to play the Virtual Boy one.

I wish Wario appeared in more games that aren't shovelware or fanservice. :^(

I just finished my first play through of WL2 and have been working on exploring all the paths and 100%-ing the game.
The first path had me stumped so I looked it up (forgive me). You had to stay in bed at the beginning and let the pirates take over your castle. That really floored me. It's that kind of cheeky game design that really draws me to this game.
I wish all the treasures weren't locked behind the same mini game, though. It's not like they're very hard but it feels redundant since the treasures are often well hidden anyway.

I am also finishing the remainder of the game. It is very well made as you put it. The minigames is definitely a shame though. They could have done the treasure hunting in a better way. Actually I would say there was no need to even put them behind minigames. Just throw a chest in the level somewhere and you get it just like that. Same thing with the map pieces.

>> No.2444414

>>2444128
Realized that this would make coin collecting useless. In that case I say that they could have simply made you buy pieces of the map at the end of each level. Or maybe you can purchase keys to unlock the treasure chests. The minigames aren't awful but it's not like they were good either.
