Did you actually understand this shit? Or did you just throw out whichever cards had the highest numbers and hope for the best?

>> No.2429415

it's really not that complicated tho

>> No.2429424

Super fucking easy to understand.
Also best card game.

>> No.2429427

Never played 9, but I could never figure out Triple Triad lol

>> No.2429446

It's not that hard to get down. The problem is the game does a fucking terrible job of explaining it.

>> No.2429451

I hated the randomness aspect to it. I much preferred the card game of FF8.

na. anything that expects you know hexadecimal is not intuitive. it's a shit game

I'd take hex over dec any day.

wow so hard to understand

so what you're saying is you don't understand the rules of the game

Yep, always won that shit.

Tetra Master beats the fuck out of Triple Triad. I couldn't follow that for shit. Too many rules

Doesn't Tetra have a random element that Triad doesn't? When two cards fight in Tetra, the higher ranking card doesn't necessarily beat the lower card. In Triad you can always predict the outcome of a play. If this is the case, Triad>Tetra.

>> No.2429702

>>2429693
Yes, Tetra has an RNG element to it that Triple doesn't.

>> No.2429705

>>2429402
Such an awful game. No thought to it at all. The random element destroys any prepared strategy and has you just throwing whatever shit you have anywhere it'll fit.

FFIX is near a perfect game. All they would have to do is replace Tetra with Triad and you'd have 20+ more hours of decent game play tacked on.

This.
I'm just glad that there was a save point near the card stadium when I was trying to make a complete set. Many a soft reset was done there.

>> No.2429774

>>2429702
Is it as random as RNG? I was sure the power "level" was a range of numbers that could be generated, with immediate levels intersecting with each others scales. E.g. Class 1 ranges from 1-15, Class 2 ranges from 10 to 25, or something like that.

>> No.2429785

>>2429774
Still seems like an awful lot of deviation for a card game.

>> No.2429795

>>2429774
It's been a while since I've seen the formula, so my numbers are probably inaccurate, but every card gets assigned a modifier that ranges between -8 to +8, which doesn't seem like much, but can actually vastly change the outcome between mismatched cards. Essentially, only the very best cards are guaranteed wins, and only against the very worst ones.

What we're dealing with is more like gambling than a straight strategical card game more often than not, and I think that really hurts the game.

>> No.2429843

>>2429424
I am rabid, frothing FF9 fan but I will be the first to admit that Tetra Master was the worst part of that game and that Triple Triad was better by leaps & bounds.

>> No.2430000

I actively avoid card games in FF. They're all shit. And seriously, if I wanted to play a card game, I'd buy a fucking card game - not invest countless hours into a half-assed minigame.

>> No.2430153

>>2430000
>countless hours
If you're already at the endgame you should be able to collect an entire set of cards in an afternoon, provided you're not retarded.

>> No.2430308

First digit = Defense
2nd = M for magic type F = physical type X = assault type
3rd = Physical defense
4th = Magic Defense.

It's really easy. For some reason ff9 is trying to avoid in-game documentations. Full of false clues

>> No.2430369

>Did you actually understand this shit?

Here's my tip:

1. I just place my weakest card "goblin 0F00" (preferably with arrows pointing at all 8 directions on my first turn.

2. Idiot AI "pwns" my goblin card

3. I'll just "pwn" my own goblin card from there. 2-hit combo!

I'ts easier to win this method because you only have to "pwn" your weakest card and not overthink about that opponents "omg whats that 3F02 mean?", you know? Once you get the hang of this strategy you could takedown the entire treno card stadium with your "cheapo" cards. I actually learned it when an AI did it to me. And then I was like "oh yah... so that's why he uses that shit". Developers are probably giving us clues on the exploit lmao they know it. Be wary though, as your cheap-ass "0F00 goblin" could "pwn" hundreds of cards it would also get stronger. So discard it as soon as it "level-up" and just buy a new one. Or snag it from the boatman in alexandria

Pretty easy game to understand. I loved both card games. Easily some of the best mini-games of the PS1 era
