The choking sound of silence edition.

Tibia is a top down fantasy MMORPG launched in 1997. /tbg/ plays on two game worlds covering the two continents the game has servers in, choose the server you have the best connection to and post your name and world in here for an invite to either the guild Yotsubas (on the European world Secura) or Sengoku (on the North American world Fidera). Things get a bit slow during Summer but we'll be back inside huddled around the warmth of our GPUs when Winter comes.

It also got a complete reset 3 days ago, and is under DDoS attacks.
It's not Tibia 7.4, its some kids wet dream of an OT. I would much rather get on a stable, non-resetting 7.4 server. Tibianic was sort of that, but it's european which is a no go due to Latency

and i would hardly call those 5 people who transferred to fidera active except maybe one or two people. i have seen at least 15 unique players log in on secura this month. most at odd times, some logged in just a few times. but people still play.

So, I have access to a seedbox and I'm wondering if I can run a OT server on it. It reminds me of the old days; I used to host one in the 7.6 days in my home computer a long time ago and it had like 70 players somehow.

I guess there's no harm in trying but I've fallen out of touch. So what's the current state of the art when it comes to OT servers? Software, tools...

New Hero spawn at Edron... Ghouls? Well, whatever, old cave can still be called Hero Cave and this can be Hero Castle/Ruins/Dungeon.

Also some new creature apparently using a red Nightmare Knight outfit.

Yeah, I checked Yotsubas a few times yesterday and there were literally 0 players online each time. RIP. If you guys were active, I wouldn't mind starting a new druid/sorc. My highest mage is just a 50 druid so thats like 1 week of playing, except that I would lose about 4 months of mlvl training which sucks. My highest knight isn't that high up either except in training as well.

Also, unlike souleaters or other similar hunting places with even better credentials, this place is always open. what do you suggest paladins use? even with infernals + SDing you don't do anywhere near as good and constant damage as a mage half your level, that's simply the truth. Also you're shooting infernals, you're going to miss a ton anyway.

When offtanking because that's what paladins do 90% of the time past 150. Except they can't take as many mobs because they don't have the knight health and they do less damage the the knight while doing so too! Yes, while the mages do more than your bolts and avas with a single of their avas. On single target you're outdamage by SDs in any real scenario (i.e. not muh -80% death damage monsters).

So you're a worse tank, worst aoe damage dealer, worst solo damage dealer.

The only thing paladins have it going for them is the survivability while they hunt solo. But solo hunting sucks because a level 100 mage can do twice your exp.

yeah such as providing a buff... damn dude what a huge contribution. they didnt allow stacking effects (armor reduc, certain bleeds or dots) so you just homogenized your group makeup once you had all buff slots filled.

Sooooo.... Subclasses when? That'd pretty much fix it all up, right? We often view paladins as "offtank" but how about if anyone can become "offtank" or "offhealer" or stack a subclass that is the same as their normal vocations speciality and become purely focused on a single task (best healing, best DPS, super tanking).

I do think roles are important but everyone wants to be a competent fighter in their own way. This way anyone can be a decent DPS as well as assist in and fulfil required roles as needed.

I'm also offering a friend to use Serk to sio me (which is hella efficient real talk). If anyone else has a druid and has a little bit of free time throughout a week let me know, I'm trying to figure out the perfect week to do it. Because it encourages botting even more, bot accounts can earn their own premium. Prices are so inflated for certain stuff that it doesn't make much sense for regular players to try and legitimately grind up money: if they can in an hour of real work earn enough to cash out 5 million in game, why farm for 5 million in game for many weeks?

It basically puts a price on how much Tibia gold is worth in relation to real money: bots will buy the scrolls because they don't work to earn the gold and legit players will sell the scrolls because they want to have fun and be able to afford things.

In my opinion you should never make premium time tradeable for in-game gold if your in-game gold economy is royally fucked because it makes it worse.

But it makes CIP money so not like they are going to do anything about it.

Everything here is just my opinion and only part of it of course. The best possible thing would be if CIP required every account to pay subscription fees. Even make subscription time giftable if you want but don't make it an in-game trading commodity… It'd mean fewer bots, the remaining bots would all have to pay sub, game doesn't lose (many) already paying players and it'd allow CIP to remove the stupid vendor and similar restrictions from currently free account cities. I mean, we know the subscription model works, many MMOs do it.

But I really doubt they'd change what they have now: after all they are milking all the idiots (like me) who are still playing and pumping more and more money into premium time and scrolls and for those with a special case of mental retardation, a bunch of ugly pixels your character can ride on for just 3-4 months worth of premium time, per character!

You might be right, but how is it better for Cip to try nothing rely on word of mouth as they watch a decline? At least if they gave facc players more exciting gameplay, it might compel new players to stay.

Which is one of the reasons why Cip needs to improve the facc hunting grounds. How could you see it as a bad thing that more people actually hunt and play the game? If you want empty hunting grounds are you opposed to server merging?

The point I was making is that Cip needs to find a way to make facc lands enjoyable and also let new players get a taste of premium gameplay since it's a totally different game. Cip has shown they aren't willing to really give facc players much, so that basically leaves forced pacc + trial accounts. As I said though, there would have to be a solution to prevent assfucking players who idle and chat all day. I can't really come up with a good compromise off the top of my head that would satiate Cip, except maybe something weird like premium doors.

Facc is shit, but I believe the solution is to make both being a free account AND being a new player more attractive (e.g. by introducing limited offline training, working on the really messy and confusing start in mainland which has a lot of exit points for new players, updating hunting grounds and maybe giving a few spells that are currently premium) rather than remove it. If money is no issue you can level your own mage piss easy by transferring and selling premium scrolls ingame. Drink some potions to get magic levels, pay someone to block a creature called Hellspawns at a place named Yalahar and you can be 100 in no time at all.

Your biggest obstacle will be buying premium scrolls but different payment methods have different restrictions so find one you can use without any trouble or restrictions (I think credit card has the most restrictions with accounts being X months old and having a pre existing character of a certain level).

If you really wanna buy a character make sure it doesn't have a real life address registered or a recovery key. An address can order a recovery key and a recovery key is a master password that can instantly change email/address/password and lock you out permanently at any time. I don't follow that shit at all though so I don't know what a good deal is or who is most/least trustworthy.

Also aside from scamming this is a game without any "instants". Everyone exists in the same server as everyone else at all times. Any character you bought has almost certainly been botted and anyone that's seen it botting in the past or knew the previous owner will know that you're phony. They don't care that you're a new owner and admitting that you are will get you deleted for sharing.

You can always transfer and there is little chance no one on that world will know you, and if you play with a group of friends then it hardly matters if someone does.
A character botted in the past doesn't run the risk of getting deleted out of the blue as long as you don't continue botting.

Leveling a mage is a bad deal. Even if I go full money it will take me a while and, in the end, it's more expensive than just buying a character.

I also want to play ek since I have a couple of druid friends.

I'm gonna transfer probably (unless I find a character in my world) so the reputation is not gonna be a big deal. Even if it was, I'm gonna play no n-pvp and with friends so who gives a fuck what people think of me.

About the recovery key thing, what if we get a trusted middleman and order a new one on me? I don't really know how that shit works so this might be stupid.

Literally 99.9% of the buyers of scrolls or whatever are either botters or people who bought scrolls/gold in the past and are now looking to spend it.

Anyone who genuinely grinds 2kk for a premium scroll either needs a job or needs to stop botting.

I went to the famed new Hero place first thing, and the place is ENORMOUS. There is a room near the beginning with like 8 bonebeasts and 2 necros, and the new monsters all have resists, loot and behavior like Heroes.

Vicious Squires give 900 EXP, Renegade Knights 1200 and Vile Grandmasters 1500. There are also some Liches and Undead Gladiators

The island is small but the underground tunnels are huge, and it appears there are some quests here.

There'll be a public phase in a short while.

Port Hope Hellspawn palace is a fun place. The Midnight and Dawnfire Asuras are like Fury's in training and can dish out a good 700+ combo solo with beams and melee. One or both of the Asuras can also drunk. Multiple floors of chaotic fun. There are two hidden trap door cracks near the top that drop you into two tiny rooms. This room had 2 or 3 asuras before people murdered them all, the other room has a few massive fire elementals.

Entry floor is this wide rectangle area. I didn't see but apparently there are just a few hydras in the hole (the palace is right next to the hydra egg quest). btw I was saying amazing loot in reference to a chest at the tippity top of the palace that has three sapphires (omg so rich) and sits next to the trap door crack. New wyrm spawn at Lib Bay. There's a new tunnel at ground floor at the south tip of the mountain directly East from the boat (it's hidden but look at the mini map and you'll see a small chunk changing from grey to green). Places is like Drefia Wyrms with little islands and includes elder wyrms (only on the islands and little pockets that require going over an island).

Here's the new Bonelord cave about half way up the Western coast of Lib Bay. It starts of with bonelords and toads, descends into elders, heads up to the central circle for more bonelords then delves down again into a little area with 9 or so braindeaths. At the end of the braindeaths is a portal that drops you right back at the start of the cave. Couple of dead ends but otherwise 9/10 route design.

In the minimap is one of the rooms from the bucket task at Rosh bridge so the teleport goes quite a way. The entrance is at a safe spot with one set of stairs going west and another going south. I chose south first and noped out of there.

Port Hope got a second Water Elemental cave. It has the same mechanic as the lib bay quara cave with an underwater area available via some whirlpools. The swimming water is PZ this time which is good because water elementals could combo a low level mage and it's easy to have four in screen when coming back to the surface.

Entrance is in a hole with no level door but it's easy to find multiple elementals at once so it's a lot riskier than the other spawn.

In the water is just some massive waters. Not many of them. Some of those clam things too though. I think there's a cheevo for opening them a bunch so it might be easier to drop by, run though the spawn and open a clam before heading to Banuta rather than hunt a shit ton of Quara.

Lib Bays new Coryms live in a sewer grate next to the druid spell ladys shack. The cave is kinda like an old school cave with tunnels instead of just massive open areas filled with monsters. The whole thing is set up like some kinda underground fighting pit (with a bunch of signs saying so) which gives them a reason to put a bunch of random stuff in there.

Botters are gonna sell their gold whether you want them to or not. They're gonna do it because suckers want that gold, they want it in quantity and they want it fast. There is demand. By making scrolls tradable, Cip actually gets a cut of that money and it helps keep your precious game alive.

There is nothing that can be done about it at this point. There is no technology in this world which can stop botting. It is quite simply a waste of money to invest in such bullshit and I bet Cip knows that. They're right in letting you people down. Botters can make a custom headless Tibia client and run thousands of them on some VPS.

The best way to do it is to make the game extremely exclusive. Have a single old-school PvP server with no maximum player limit. Make the game invite-only and only allow hardcore roleplayers in. Charge them fucktons of money so that they feel the sting if they ever lose their account.

Yes, doing it properly is not easy but it'd be easy to ban a large amount of bots straight away even with dumb system. If a character is standing on a spot for 30 minutes spamming ‘yes’, it's not hard to guess what's happening. Yeah, bots can be changed to be smarter but nowadays they really don't care because cip just doesn't ban for this shit.

If I recall a fairly simple solution to atleast culling some botters is to very frequently update the client. Once every couple, or even, every day would keep some at bay, I'd imagine.
Constantly having to keep up with patches and being forced to update their bot software every single time could probably work.
