Ristar, what do you think of it?

cute little bugger. I'm not usually interested in merch but I'd buy a plushie of him in a heartbeat.
Oh wait, you meant the game.

Looks great
Sounds great
Plays solidly okay

7/10

Never felt like it needed a sequel or like it was leading up to much more. Doesn't really match up to it's contemporaries in any regard.

>> No.2423628

this gives me strong sonic 1/CD vibes
love the cheats that unlocked extra modes like the boss rush, super hard and bonus round time attack

>> No.2423642

you might want to check out the game gear version, there's a new level
set the emulator region to japanese though or you'll miss out on content

The comfiest, most charming little platformer there is. Everything about it, from the idle animations that are unique to each level, to the fact that Ristar literally catapults himself between planets, puts a smile on my face. I always get a bit misty-eyed during the credits.

10/10 POTY all year erry year.

1.5

In the Japanese version, Freon is called Timu. The first icy level of it kinda shares a similarity to Freon, but the second level that has you descend into the bowels of some massive clockwork mechanism is completely different. The brand-new boss that you fight at the end is also time-themed.

>> No.2423660

>>2423659
before the clockwork thing there's supposed to be a cloud level

pic related
but if you're playing on an western game gear the game will skip to the clockwork level instead
I might be wrong though, haven't really checked.

>>2423665
ACTUALLY the cloud level comes up before the pirate ship level, fanturn. The first level of timu really is the same ice theme stage as the genesis game.

One of the most overrated games in my opinion. It's a slow platformer that has uninspired levels. This is a shame since I really enjoyed the 16-bit Sonic games.

I'll agree with >>2423609
Ristar is a solid 7/10

this. i've never been able to play more than a level or two. it's really boring.

>> No.2424016

Nice idea but too slow, too samey (while that neon pastel might look great to some, it really gets on my nerves) and too late in the wave of 16 bit platformers to hold me even enough to justify the money I spent on it then. Basically Dynamite Headdy without the stuff that makes it great.

>> No.2424019

i think it's a great game. and pretty.

>> No.2424423

Ristar was one of the characters Archie was specifically told they couldn't use for Worlds Unite (Capcom side said no to Phoenix Wright).

>> No.2424425

It's better than any Sonic game.

>> No.2424435

Played the shit out of it as a kid, completed it on every difficulty doing all the bonus stages.
The hardest setting is meant for sadists

I was bloody good at games when I was young

Great game. Better than any 2D Mario.

I used to think it was in the same universe as Sonic just out in space somewhere, like back when I was a kid playing the original games.

more weird shit from the land of Smibbly Bibbly.

>> No.2424532

Admittedly I haven't played much of it, but what I have played I'm not a huge fan of the control. Feels slippery.

I could definitely see that.

Sign of the times I guess. Same console, similar aesthetic.

>>2424452
Love the sound. The great late era Mega Drive where they knew how to get the most out of the system but the compositions aren't much to write home about. Maybe that's just down to personal taste though.
